Phillip "Phill" Henry Doherty, FCPA, FCA, of Ridgeway, Ontario, passed away peacefully, on October 21, 2025, at age 72, surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Phill lived a full and purposeful life marked by intellect, integrity, and deep devotion to family. He earned his undergraduate degree from McMaster University and an MBA in Finance from Queen's University. Phill began his career as a Chartered Professional Accountant with KPMG/Ernst & Whinney, becoming a partner after eight years. As President and CEO of Canadian General Capital, he and his team grew several notable Canadian companies, including Chapters, Unico, and Star Data. He also served on numerous corporate and pension boards, including 17 years on the Investment Advisory Committee of the Canada Post Pension Fund. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Phill was known for his warmth, wit, and curiosity. He enjoyed golf, photography, birding, and rarely missed a Blue Jays game. Phill was a beloved husband to his wife, Mary Collins, with whom he shared over four decades together. He was the proud father of Greg (Colleen) and Devon (Andrew); a devoted grandfather to Kaius and Reese,;as well as a loving brother, uncle, and friend. Predeceased by his parents, Richard Henry and Mary Phyllis Doherty (née Lelliott); and brothers, Peter and Martin, he leaves behind a legacy of leadership, kindness, and devotion. A celebration of Phill's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada in support of families affected by Lewy body dementia (
