PHYLLIS TRENHOLME Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Phyllis Jane Trenholme (Allan), in Montreal on December 9, 2025, at 93 years of age, after a lengthy hospital stay precipitated by accumulated health challenges in recent years. Born May 15, 1932, the eldest daughter of Charles Reginald Trenholme and Lesly Nevison Trenholme (née Gordon), she was predeceased by her firstborn son, John (Kincardine, ON); sister, Judith Carraciolo (Rome, Italy); her stepsister, Ann Gilmour (Ottawa, ON); and many beloved friends. She grew up in Montreal, attending Roslyn School followed by King's Hall-Compton in the Eastern Townships, where she made many of the close friendships that she maintained throughout her life. She married John A.H. Allan in 1956 and they had three sons, John (predeceased, Kincardine ON), Andrew (Montreal, QC), and Geoffrey (Montreal QC). Each of her sons forged his own way on his own terms and Mum remained fiercely proud of each one of us to the end. A successful 40-year career in Westmount real estate facilitated her enjoying 93 long sunny summers in her beloved Metis Beach QC, honing her tennis, golf and cocktail circuit skills (and making sure to pass them on to her sons). For many years she and her family were also active members of the Magog Hermitage Club community until the mid-60's. She entered hospital only a week after returning from Metis in September 2025. Known for her great sense of humor and fun-loving nature, she was a fixture at many prominent social functions around town and country and will be missed by the many who knew and loved her. Her rock-solid stoicism through her health decline was a testament to her strength of character. The motto on the family crest is "Steadfast and Firm", and she certainly embodied that spirit. She is survived by her two remaining sons, Andrew (Helena Urfer) and Geoffrey (Annie Sheridan); and five grandchildren, Sienna, Elliott, Elsie, William and Nora. A private family service is planned. A celebration of life will be held in Metis Beach at the time of her burial there in summer 2026. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in her name to the Canadian Wildlife Federation or the charity of your choice.
