Pyarali Nanji Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pyarali Gulamani Nanji, C.M., on August 20, 2025, at the age of 95. Beloved husband of Gulshan; cherished father of Azim, Tazmin, Narmin (Nimi), and Hanif (Chiko); and proud grandfather and great-grandfather, Pyarali Nanji's life was defined by hard work, kindness, generosity, and service to others. Arriving in Canada as a refugee from Uganda in 1972, he built a successful business career and, together with his family, established the Nanji Family Foundation. Through the Foundation, he championed healthcare, education, the arts, and humanitarian causes in Canada and around the world. In recognition of these extraordinary contributions, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada. Pyarali is survived by his wife and pillar of 74 years, Gulshan; four children, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He will be remembered with deep love and respect by all whose lives he touched. The funeral service will be held in Toronto on Tuesday, August 26th, at the Ismaii Community Center and Jamatkhanna in Scarborough at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Charity of Your Choice.
