R. MUIR Obituary

ROBERT DAVID MUIR Known as Dave (or to many of his friends as Mad Dog) died peacefully on February 22, 2020 at St. Michael's Hospital. He was the dearly loved husband of Pamela Craig, wonderful dad to Sarah and Julia Muir (Peter Park), and 'Grand Dog' to his little grandson, Graham. He was a warm and loving man with a quiet, mischievous sense of humour. We will miss him greatly. Dave was born in Ingersoll, Ontario on April 1, 1941 to Anne and Robert Muir and was younger brother to Jim Muir. Dave spent most of his childhood in Cornwall, Ontario. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering from Queen's University. He lived briefly in Montreal and later settled in Toronto where he completed his MBA at the University of Toronto and met Pam his wife of forty four years. Dave was fortunate to have enjoyed many lifelong friendships. He worked for many years in the mining sector for Rio Algom and later as a consultant for several mining firms. Dave loved international travel, fine dining and good times with his friends and family. He kept fit skiing with his daughters, running, spinning and going on long beach walks near his summer home in Kingsburg, Nova Scotia. Our thanks to the kind and compassionate staff at St. Michael's Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Toronto. A celebration of Dave's life will be held on April 5, 2020 from 2-4 pm at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC) at 141 St. George St., Toronto. All friends and family are welcome.

Hello to Pam, Julia and Sarah,
I was very saddened to read the obituary of Dave, your husband and father. I was looking to find and address for your family ( and if you still resided near the Danforth) and saw it. Please accept my late condolences and know that Dave impressed me as a man of integrity and he was wonderful father to Julia and Sarah when I knew you all those years ago. I remember being very polite, helpful and congenial. I remember the four of you at my wedding. I am at the same address should you like to contact me.
Accept my sincere sympathy,
Julie

I only knew him through his lovely family. On those occasions, I knew him as a caring man with a warm smile. My sincere condolences to David's family and friends.

David, Jim and I played touch football most afternoons in the parking lot behind the Muir's house in Cornwall while Jim and I were in High School. So sorry to read about Dave who borrowed my drawing set when he entered engineering at university.
Would love to hear from Jim as would Ranald Quail our mutual friend and classmate in Cornwall. Ran went on to become Deputy Minister in Ottawa.

Pammy, many of my fondest summer memories have Mad Dog in them. For all those years at 8 Mile Point he was always there, carrying that grin of his. I will be there on the 5th to share those memories with all the others that loved him too. My condolences to and your wonderful daughters.

I worked with Dave at Rio Algom from 1977
to 1986 and then kept in touch from a new job at Highland Valley Copper in Vancouver until ~ 2002.

He was a good colleague, business traveler, . . . . mentor, . . .

Many fond memories with Dave & Jim at Stone House Point, and skiing in St. Sauveur.
It was the treat of the skiing season to be with Dave to open our 'house' in Sauveur and celebrate at the local watering hole. A quiet & great guy.
Our sympathies to Dave's family.
