R. RICHMAN Obituary

R. RUBY RICHMAN (Reuben) Early on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Bridgepoint Health, we lost our beloved husband, father and grandfather, brother and brother-in law, uncle, great-uncle and friend to so many, at the age of 87. Always surrounded by family, he was strong and stoic and fought so hard to stay with us. Always 'fine and dandy', Ruby would greet each day and every person with a smile and an amazing attitude. We were so fortunate to have him in our lives. We are devastated to lose him, but hope he is now at peace. Ruby was a devoted husband of 62 happy years to Eileen Richman (Young) and deeply loved father to his three children and their partners, Alana Richman and Stuart Clarfield, Jacqueline Richman and Stu Miller and Steven Richman and Aspa Tzaras. The most amazing grandfather in the world to Quincy Miller, Dusty Miller, Casy Miller, Zoe Richman and Izyk Richman. Brother/brother-in-law to Barbara Shapero and Scott Macpherson and the late Archie (Arthur) Richman and Linda Richman, Sandra and the late Gordon Smith, Franklin and Mimi Young, and the late Bernard Young. Cherished son of the late Benjamin and Sarah (Hoffman) Richman. Supportive, fun and cool uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. Ruby loved his family above all else. His lifelong love for the game of basketball led him to many great accomplishments, but it was his love of his family that defined and animated him. He will be remembered as an Olympian, a pioneer and leader in the world of Canadian basketball and international sport, a world traveler, an engaged reader and an endless storyteller. A day with Ruby was always filled much love and laughter... and always a story. He taught us to make the most of each day and push our limits and to believe in ourselves, because he always did. He was a leader, supporter, and coach in so many aspects of his life. With a sharp wit and amazing sense of humour, Ruby was the ultimate raconteur, always with a story to share and a ready smile on his face. Never a bad word to say about anyone and an endless love of life, travel, and enjoying every day, hopefully with a few minutes to nap in the sunshine and perhaps an ice cream. Nothing gave him more joy and pride than celebrating the achievements and milestones of his children and cherished grandchildren, as well as those of his nieces and nephews and their children. He was the light in our lives and will be profoundly and forever missed. Memorial service and family gathering will be held at Temple Emanu-El, 120 Old Colony Drive, North York, ON M2L 2K2 (Bayview and the 401), on Friday, November 5th at 1:30 p.m. Proof of full vaccination (for those 12 and over) and masks will be required.
