Ralph PASTORE Obituary
PASTORE, Ralph
Passed peacefully away, at home in St. John's, Newfoundland, in the presence of family and friends, on Friday, February 1, 2002, Ralph Thomas Pastore, Ph.D., age 60 years, archaeologist and ethnohistorian. Beloved husband of Laurel, and dear father of Ralph Lucien of Toronto, and John Patrick of New York. Cherished older brother of John (Diane) of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; Mary Ann McClain of Athens, OH; Kathleen (Hubert) Miller of Devon, PA; brother-in-law of Mary Pastore of Houston, TX; and special Canadian uncle of their children and grandchildren. Predeceased by parents Lucien Pastore and Mary Kerin; brother Jim Pastore; and brother-in-law Bill McClain. Ralph will be sadly missed by his friends and colleagues in the Department of History, Memorial University, and in the Archaeology Unit, Queen's College. Over his career of 33 years in the history and archaeology of Canadian Aboriginal peoples, Ralph touched the lives of countless numbers of students and professional colleagues in the local and national heritage communities. He will be remembered both for his contributions to Beothuk history, especially through excabation and interpretation of the Boyd's Cove site, and for his irrepressible and wildly inventive sense of humour. The family will receive visitors and friends at Caul's Funeral Home, Le Marchant Road, St. John's, Newfoundland. Visitation Sunday from 7-10 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, February 5th, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. from the Basilica. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada or to the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation.
