RICHARD "DICK" BRADSHAW Obituary

Richard "Dick" Frederick Bradshaw, CM (August 9, 1939 - December 17, 2025) - With deep sadness we announce the death of dear Dick. He was the heart and soul of our family. Dick died peacefully, in Vancouver General Hospital, surrounded by family. Predeceased by his son, Alexander. He is survived by Val, the love of his life; his cherished daughter, Brenda; two wonderful grandchildren, Charlie and Ellie; sisters-in-law, Phyl Havercroft (Montreal) and Peggy Rader (Ottawa); as well as many nieces and nephews. Dick was proud of having lived his childhood in Grand-Mère, Quebec. Educated at Bishop's College School, he graduated from McGill University in 1961. Working at Montreal Trust in investment research, he was transferred to Vancouver in 1963. In 1965, he joined Phillips, Hager & North Ltd. as the fourth partner. Dick spearheaded the partnership's focus on pension plan management. He became President in 1987 and was Board Chair from 1994 until 1999 when he retired. Dick served on numerous nonprofit boards, amongst them: Vancouver Aquarium and Marine Science Centre (Chair), Vancouver Foundation (Vice Chair), Children's Hearing and Speech Centre of BC (Chair), Vancouver Prostate Centre at VGH (Chair) and VGH + UBC Hospital Foundation. He also served on the Board of the Public Sector Pension Investment Board. Dick was the recipient of several awards: the Order of Canada 2013, Business Laureate of BC 2013, and in 2013 Val and Dick received the SFU President's Distinguished Community Leadership Award for philanthropic leadership in environmental and health research. That same year Val and Dick established the Liber Ero Post Doctoral Fellowship in Conservation Biology. We are very grateful to the wonderful nurses and doctors at VGH for the excellent care Dick received. Special thanks to Dr. Brian Kwon, VGH, and Dr. Vishal Varshney, St. Paul's Hospital, for their extraordinary care and support over the last few years. A celebration of Dick's life will be held Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, 4300 SW Marine Drive, Vancouver. Dick was an avid fly fisherman and skier with a lifelong passion for the environment. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Nature Trust of BC (naturetrust.bc.ca) or the Pacific Salmon Foundation (psf.ca). Walkey & Company Funeral Directors 604 738-0006

To Val and family: I met Dick through my work in the early 80's and attended many meetings with him until his retirement. He mentored me with my security courses and was always patient and encouraging. I could not have done it without his help. He will always stand out in my memories as being a genuine gentleman who was forever congenial and happy. I am so sorry to be away for his memorial but as I will be in New Zealand I hope your memories of time spent down under bring you comfort at this time of great loss. Janine Grace
