RICHARD CARSON Obituary

June 18, 1938 - February 27, 2025 Passed away in Vancouver, with his loving wife of 49 years, Allison (née Watson), at his side. Richard was born in Toronto. A gifted student, he attended University of Toronto Schools and then University of Toronto (Victoria College), where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. Richard joined Price Waterhouse in 1964 to launch his career as a Chartered Accountant, winning the Canadian Institute Silver Medal and the Ontario Institute Bronze Medal in his Intermediate examinations. His career as a Tax Partner took him from Toronto to Montreal and ultimately to Vancouver, where he was the Partner in Charge of the Tax Department. In 1991, Richard was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Richard was the proud father of Sean (Cathy), Shannon (Richard) and Neil (Clare). Marriage to Allison added her children to the family - Christopher Adair (Zeinab) and Colin Adair (Krystle). Ten grandchildren followed: Lauren and Graeme Carson, Keara and Tegan Wilson, Maxwell and Bramwell Carson, Safia and Aliya Adair, and Jake and Olivia Adair. Richard was the admired older brother of four siblings, Judi Riley (Lorne), Pam Large (Dennis), Alan (Susan) and Nora Hodder (Dave). He was the uncle or great-uncle of many nephews and nieces; and the brother-in-law of Jennifer Tinker (sons, Scott and Keith (Nadine)). Richard had a keen and quick wit and a subtle and incisive sense of humour. He skillfully sorted through issues, acknowledging different points of view before offering a wise and considered opinion. Richard always took time to chat with people. He was interested in hearing what they thought. Upon retirement, Richard enjoyed playing golf at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, where he almost shot his age last fall. He held executive positions from Treasurer to President in the Shaughnessy Investment Club and Probus Canada. Richard enjoyed playing bridge at the club and was an avid reader with a broad range of knowledge. Richard and Allison travelled to distant places in early retirement before setting sights closer to home, enjoying winters in Rancho Mirage. A family Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Toronto, and burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. If desired, donations in Richard's name may be made to Covenant House Vancouver or Union Gospel Mission (Vancouver).

Rich and I worked together from 1964 to 67 at PWC vying for medals as we wrote the CA exams. We met as soon as we joined PW, we were a bit older than the other students, changing from other careers, but more important both of our wive's were expecting, so we looked for similar accommodation and found affordable apartments in Flemingdon Park that were perfect for young families . Rich and I worked on many of the same job´s at PW, then spent a lot of social time together with our families.
We were very close friends for a three years, but with my move to Montreal, and later his move to Vancouver , I allowed us to lose touch. Good friends are important, and now I regret not having found the time to stay in touch.
I remember Rich as a very quiet, intelligent, thoughtful man, a bit of a workaholic like myself, but who always found time for his family. We will remember him fondly.
Our condolence to the family. Larry and Mireille Meyers
