Richard HOBBS Obituary

RICHARD J. HOBBS 1931-2022 Richard John Hobbs was born in Toronto on February 11, 1931 and passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on November 17, 2022. A resident of Muskoka for the last 30 years he spent the last year of his life in long-term care in Barrie, Ontario. Richard was a product of a different era, a gentleman of grace, courage and integrity, who was quiet in his demeanour and a loyal friend to all. He was a business graduate of the Ivy Business School at Western University and a recipient of the prized Bronfman Fellowship for the MBA Program at Columbia University in New York City. His brilliance was recognized early in his career as Senior Vice President and Director of Canadian Tire Corporation (1966-1979), and his direction in retail management helped guide the company to its present-day success. Richard was the beloved husband and partner to Patricia for more than 45 years. He will be remembered with much love by multiple friends and missed dearly by his extended family including three children, four step- children and six grandchildren. Richard requested only a private family gathering to celebrate his life.

Condolences to all who share in the loss of this wonderful man, he was very loved and respected by all that knew him.

My heart will forever hold fond memories of my uncle and Godfather. I've known what a special person Uncle Richard was since I was a little girl when he showed up at our house with a very large Easter basket full of goodies, he told me that he met the Easter Bunny on the way and to give this basket to Linda.

He walked me down the isle on my wedding day, and told me he had a pair of running shoes I could borrow if I wanted.

I feel very fortunate to have spent time with him these last few months and to have had our phone chats.

Rest in peace Uncle Richard.

Love Linda

It goes without saying that Mr. Hobbs made a big impact on my family. My parents named me after him! I'm sure the family can quickly figure out where my middle name came from!

My thoughts go to those who have had the opportunity to share his life with him.

Sincerely,
Richard Dean Line
