Richard SCHRODER Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Richard John Schroder on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Billings Court Manor, in his 98th year. Devoted husband to wife, Agnes. Loving father of Richard, Paul (Nancy), John (MaryAnne) and Caroline (John). Grandfather to Ian, Jenni and Amara. He will be deeply missed by his extended family and friends. Richard was born to Richard Sheppard Schroder and Marguerite Minet on October 7, 1926, in Toronto, Ontario, and Richard grew up in Toronto. In his early twenties, he trained with the Canada's army reserves during the summer months to pay for his university costs, achieving a military Officer ranking. Richard gained his Royal Conservatory Certificate Program (A.R.C.T.) and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto in his younger years. When he realized his passion was teaching, he then graduated from Ontario College for Education. Richard was a Music Director and Teacher for over 35 years and worked in Southern Ontario High Schools. Richard was bilingual, and a member and soloist in several choirs. Richard loved spending his time outdoors in nature and enjoyed travelling in his later years. His first major investment was in purchasing land. He jointly purchased with his parents on Lake Joseph in Muskoka and built a cottage. Later, he purchased a beautifully restored 1850's farm house, north of Port Hope. Then moved to a lovely historically designed stone house in Ancaster, Ontario. Keenly interested in antiques, heritage buildings and their restoration. Richard became a member of the Ancaster Historical Society. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army. "Time calls: Love stays"

Richard Schroder had a profound influence on myself as well as many of my classmates at the Port Hope High School during 1972-1977. Many of us went on to teach music in elementary and high school due to his gift of dedication to his students and profession. When I posted your husband's and father's obituary on my fb page I immediately got so many responses from students who only the highest regard for this very special man! Many of us continue to play an instrument, sing, lead and accompany choirs due to the impact he had on his students over the five years he lead us with his warm heart , sense of humour, dedication to teaching and encouraging young people through his life for music. Mr. Schroder made a difference in so many lives at PHHS. My sincere condolences on his passing. He holds a very special place in my heart. May He Rest in Peace.
