Passed away peacefully on June 7, 2017 at Union Villa, Markham, Ontario.
Richard Karl (Dick) Sylvester, BA.Sc., P. Eng. was the son of Karl and Edith Beal Sylvester. Devoted husband of Dorothy Ellsworth (Flavelle) for over 63 years. Loving father of Rick (Margaret), Margot (Alain) and David (Marisa). Proud grandfather of Marissa, Matthew and Lindsay Sylvester, William, Patrick and James Dubé and Alison Sylvester. Great grandfather of Declan Fortune. Brother-in-law of Muriel and the late John Flavelle, and Peter and the late Marjorie Williams.
Dick was born and brought up in Lindsay, Ontario, attended Central School, Lindsay Collegiate Institute and graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1951 from the University of Toronto.
Dick started his business life at Atlas Steel Manufacturing in Welland then moved to the Toronto area to work on the design and installation of air conditioning systems. He found his place with a mechanical consulting engineering firm The Mitchell Partnership (TMP) where he was a long time partner until his retirement. Passionate cottager, avid traveller, loyal professional, devoted family man, Richard will be remembered above all for his soft, gentle nature and deep kindness to all. A Memorial Visitation will be held at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home (8911 Woodbine Avenue, Markham, ON, L3R 5G1) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
