ROBERT ARMITAGE Obituary

Sternsman, raconteur, free-thinker, entrepreneur, carver of perfect turns, and steadfast family man, Robert Fryer Armitage solo-paddled for the shore beyond on December 20, 2024, having attained what he liked to call his 93rd year. "Bob Sr." classics include: Unlocking obscure but useful wisdom, such as negotiating with car dealers, rejuvenating pots and pans, stilson-ing from the center. Planting handwritten, Iambic pentameter clues around Oakville for his legendary treasure hunts. Constructing for his grandson New York City's sturdiest hardwood stroller ramp. Instilling an affinity for the outdoors ("The stroking paddle lies in happy hands") while missing nary a ski season nor September Camp. Co-founding an industrial heating company, which enabled him to retire when, as he put it, "experiences became more precious than money." "Additional mandatory" driver's ed for his grandkids, covering such topics as gearboxes, snow maneuvers, and other drivers' eccentricities. Bob's beloved daughter, Heidi, preceded Bob to the shore beyond, no doubt with an Armitage salad at the ready. Waving through tears from this shore: son, Bobby Armitage; daughter-in-law, Natalie Armitage; son-in-law, Adam Green; grandchildren, Walker Green, Georgia Green, Holden Armitage, and Cassidy Armitage; as well as countless friends and fans. Fare thee well, Bob Sr.

Have just read Jane Sproul“s message...so now I know he was our neighbour!
Sad to hear Bob has died. The Armitages were good neighbours to the Creans.

Curious if Robert Armitage grew up in Toronto, on Cranbrooke Avenue. If so, our family lived next door. He was the very cool fellow, older than us. And his family showed us many kindnesses.
