Bob's interest in the military started early, and he served as the CO of the Cadet Corps at Lawrence Park Collegiate in Toronto and as a Master Cadet was chosen to attend the first Special Cadet Camp in Banff, Alberta. Bob later qualified as an SAS Demolition Specialist on a course held at The Far East Engineering School, in Johor Bahru, which culminated with a night parachute drop on a mission to destroy a large enemy bridge. On returning to Canada, Bob rejoined to The Royal Regiment of Canada, and after various regimental postings rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel to command the Regiment. When his firm moved him to Montreal, he became G1 (Training) in the newly formed Sector L'Est HQ. Over the years following, Bob had the privilege of serving as both the Honorary Lieutenant Colonel and Honorary Colonel of The Royal Regt. of Canada, as Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Toronto Scottish Regiment, and as Honorary Colonel of the Grey & Simcoe Foresters. Mark Blevis

I met Bob at a Commissionaires event in March 2017. He introduced himself to me following a presentation I'd delivered noting that Blevis is an uncommon name and that he'd known three Blevises when he was growing up. It turns out he knew my dad (Bert, who passed away this past January) and dad's two older brothers, Leon and Earl, all of whom attended Lawrence Park Collegiate. I enjoyed a pleasant chat with Bob. I was sad to learn of his death shortly after I joined Commissionaires Great Lakes last year.

Bob will be honoured alongside two other CGL Board members when we toast our fallen comrades at this weekend's Awards Event.

I only knew Bob for the last 2 or 3 years - I delivered frozen meals to him and his wife in "Grenadierwoods" and I am a better person for having known him if only for a brief time. Rest in Peace my friend

Bob Douglas was a good friend and colleague of my father, John Waterman, who passed away last September. My father greatly respected his friendship and excellence and our family appreciated the wonderful memory that Bob posted on my Dad's obituary. A great loss to us all.

My dad served with Bob in 2FER. Bob was a great mentor and friend, who I knew well through the RCMI. I served with Cameron, who I extend my deepest condolences to, as well as the rest of Bob's progeny from here in the antipodes.

“You see, what I wanted to start was a way so that a soldier in the Grey and Simcoe Foresters, if he saw another soldier, he could, instead of saying ‘hello’ or ‘hey you’, he could call out ‘Tenacious’. Then, the other soldier would know they are being called out by another Forester, respond with ‘Versatile’ and know that they’ve been called to by a friend.”

Debby and I are deeply saddened at Bob's now having passed away. We extend our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to all the family at their loss.
Bob was to us a great friend and advisor; a great and distinguished man in every respect. It was an enormous honour to serve with him in the Royal Regiment of Canada. May his soul be reunited with his beloved Anne in everlasting peace and light.

Our family (Ashworth) send their sincerest condolences to the entire Douglas family. We go back a long way with the Douglas clan and the Booths as well. Both Bob and Anne were very dear friends with my father David (2013) and my mom Shirley. Anne's parents were "weekend friends" with my grandparents Ruben and Ethel Bolstad sharing a glass or two together in the King area during the summers. I remember 'uncle' Bob as a generous, humourous and compassionate man and I know he will be missed by all of you.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Bob Douglas. His military accomplishments are noteworthy, but he was known through shared years at NCR and became a good family friend to my parents Larry and Rena Boucher. Sincere sympathies to the family.

Bob and Anne were dear friends for many years. This photo was taken New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2001, at the RCMI. We shared the same wedding anniversary, and celebrated together for a number of years. We also shared many impromptu dinners at their home on Teddington. Fond memories of times together, shared laughter.

I am sending my condolences on behalf of myself and my parents, Colonel Gordon (Ted) Taylor and Mrs. Sylvia Taylor. My father is currently residing in Sunnybrook Veteran's Centre and my mother is living in a retirement residence.
My father and Col Douglas were life-long friends who attended the same high school and both served as Commander of the Royal Regiment of Canada. I know my father valued his friendship with Col Douglas as they shared similar values including a dedication to family and to country. They were both proud strong, proud men, who valued physical fitness and self-discipline.
My parents have fond memories of attending military functions with Bob and Anne back in the day, including the Garrison Ball.

I'm sharing an old picture of the Royal Regiment Officers from 1961 which includes my father and Col Douglas. (They were such handsome young men.) It also includes Toronto Mayor Nathan Phillips and Prime Minister John G. Diefenbaker.

We are sincerely sorry for your loss.

Bob was the greatest of men — men that this great country were built upon — generous, kind, caring and giving - and a man with great principles and pride. Bob will be missed in his community. Canada lost a great man.

Bob is a legend as a respectful integral gentlemen of class
Bob was a strong eloquent NCR District Manager coaching us to many CPC's in the late 70's selling Century 100's and NCR 8200's mini computers. We celebrated one big sale with Lieutenant Colonel Robert Douglas at the Granite Club, along with many other times we treasure as memories forever. A true friend for over 45 years. Sincere condolences to the Douglas family.

I considered Bob and Anne as friends for over sixty years. I worked with Bob over his 23 years with NCR where he enjoyed a successful career in many management capacities. Bob was a fun guy to be around with a great sense of humour which was always present even under the most stressful work situations. I always admired his military achievements which were never boasted but humbly enjoyed.
He was a loyal and dear friend and I will miss him. My sincere condolences to his family.
RIP Bob.
