February 13, 1932 - October 15, 2024 Journalist and author of this death notice. Editor of Saturday Night magazine. Columnist for the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail and National Post. Broadcaster on the CBC and TVO. Author of many books including "Best Seat in the House" and "A Life in Paragraphs." In closing, I record my gratitude to those who made my life joyful and satisfying: my wife, Geraldine Sherman, and my four children, James, Margaret (and her husband Jeffrey Rosenthal), Rachel (and her husband Nicholas Power), Sarah (and her husband Stephen Marche); my grandson Elijah Robert Marche and my granddaughter Aviva Janet Marche; and to those who predeceased me, my mother and father, Frances and A.E. Fulford; my siblings, Joan Anne Gould (and her husband George), Diane Gee (and her husband Warren), and Wayne Fulford (and his wife Patricia), and their many and splendid progeny; my mother-in-law Helen Sherman and her family, especially my father-in-law Philip Sherman; the indispensable Tereza Penollar; my dear friends; my colleagues in the noble profession of journalism; my readers; and the human subjects of my work. Your love was plentiful, and (I hope) never taken for granted. Your encouragement and your generous tolerance made my existence possible. Writing this on a day that I hope is far in advance of my death, I borrow the last words of Ludwig Wittgenstein: "Tell them I've had a wonderful life."
