Robert GERMAN Obituary
ROBERT ANGUS "GUS" GERMAN 1942 - 2022 Robert Angus "Gus" German passed away on March 12, 2022 at the age of 79 of a prolonged and reoccurring battle with cancer. Described as a clever computer genius with an uncanny sense of humour, he helped put the University of Waterloo on the map by co-publishing the solution to the ancient Archimedes Cattle problem and co-developing the WATFOR compiler. He would go on to co-found Geac Computers, which would later bring the computer age to Credit Unions such as VanCity and Canada Permanent Trust, and Library systems across the world including the Smithsonian and the Vatican. Later in life, he was an advocate for adult ADHD causes and continued to work in his eighth decade on cybersecurity with his friend Anthony. His biggest lesson to couples is "to have fun" and his first offering to those going into computers and mathematics is that "there is no truth, only proof". His ashes will be interred at York Cemetery in Toronto on May 15, 2022, what would have been his 80th Birthday. He will lie with his first wife Catherine German, née Millson, with whom he will be reunited after having been tragically widowed for over fifty years. He is survived by his daughter Wendy Domike (Paul), Greg German (Cristina), and Robert German (Farangis A.), his sisters Shirley Anne Vulpe (Michael) and Penny as well as five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife and his second wife Angelika German nee Pierracos, and his mother Shirley and father Dillon.
