ROBERT GILMORE Obituary



ROBERT CURRIE GILMORE (1926 TO 2006) Peacefully in his sleep on March 29th. Devoted husband of Shelagh (Rowlette) loving father of Kathy (Bob), Cody (Steve), Robin (Chris), and Jennifer (Don). Adored 'Papa' of Cameron, Matthew, Jonathan, Geoffrey, Gillian and Abigail. Born in Vancouver, B.C., Bob at the age of 15 started working for the CPR as a telegrapher at Crow's Nest. A few years later, he returned to Vancouver to complete his schooling and went on to get his Bachelor of Commerce Degree at UBC. He then worked for many years with the CPR until retiring as Senior VicePresident in 1986. In the intervening years, he moved with his family to Winnipeg, Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto and Calgary. In 1986, Bob took on a three year term as President of the Soo Line Railroad in Minneapolis, Minnesota before coming to live in happy retirement in Hudson, Quebec. Gardening became a great interest for him and he loved to travel. A Memorial Service will be held at St. James' Church, 642 Main Road, Hudson Heights on Wednesday, April 5th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Victorian Order of Nurses, Hudson District, 98 Cameron Avenue, Hudson QC J0P 1H0 or The Alzheimer's Society of Canada, 20 Eglinton Ave. W., Ste. 1200. Toronto, ON M4R 1K8 would be greatly appreciated. To those who cared for Bob during his last days at the Lakeshore General Hospital and Residence Champlain, L'Orignal, Ontario, the family wants to express our gratitude and thanks. Forget me not.

I knew Bob in my years at CP in Montreal. A gentleman, who always had time for the the youngsters in the railway who were eager to learn.

I knew Bob as a young person in Gimli. I remember being stuck with awe that this nice humble man made a big railroad work. My deepest sympathy to Shelagh the girls (as my mom used to say). My heart goes out to you.
