Robert was brilliant and generous. His work in simulation modeling for sustainability at University of Waterloo was instrumental in my research work and led to the launch of the software firm that I co-founded. We celebrated our 25th anniversary a few days ago. I learned a great deal from Robert and he was generous with his knowledge each time we met to collaborate. For that I owe him a debt of gratitude and I hope he knew how his pioneering work led to applications on four continents and is still being used today.
