Robert IMLAY Obituary

ROBERT A. IMLAY Robert Angus Imlay died on November 15, 2023 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre's Palliative Care Unit. Born in London, Ontario in 1937, the second of two children of Peter Imlay and Cora Imlay (nee Glover), Robert went to the University of Western Ontario for his BA and MA and then to the University of Glasgow for his PhD. In 1961, he married Camille Imlay (nee Hamel) and they had three sons, Pierre, Talbot and Patrick. From 1963 to 2002, Robert was a professor of philosophy at the University of Toronto. He was a passionate debater, especially regarding political and social justice questions. Robert enjoyed reading in several languages, going to the cinema, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, three sons and three grandchildren, Alicia Kate, Julian and Anderson. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.

Prof Bob Imlay was one of my PhD thesis supervisors. He was well-read and published in French, German, and English, a gem at the Department. I spent countless hours at his office discussing my thesis on Kant. He is gentlemanly, kind, resourceful and always helpful to students. He invited me to have dinner at his house with his wife and other PhD students. He will be missed by all those who learnt philosophy from him. And my condolences, however belated, to his family.

I am Alexandra's former English Teacher. My thoughts and condolences to all the family. I can see that Robert Imlay had a happy and vibrant life and was loved by many. Again, peace and strength to all of his family and friends.
