ROBERT KELLY Obituary
Robert Gordon Mackenzie Kelly, 86, died peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, with his family by his side. Bob was born on February 19, 1939, in Toronto to Fred and Sally Kelly. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lee; and loving children, Robert (Cathy Siskind), Sara (Shayne Koebel) and Rebecca; and cherished grandchildren, Isaiah (Nikki), Maya, Owen, Ruth and Nathan. Bob grew up in Toronto, where he attended UTS, and created a lifelong friendship with fellow classmate Bill Dixon. He studied medicine at the University of Toronto Medical School followed by internship and residency in Ophthalmology at the Montreal General Hospital in Montreal. Bob and Lee welcomed their first two children, Rob and Sara, in Montreal. After Bob completed a year of glaucoma research at The Eye Institute and Moorfield's Eye Hospital in London, England, he joined the staff of the Mississauga Hospital in 1971, where he established a practice in general Ophthalmology. Their third child, Rebecca, was born in Mississauga. His patients loved him for his dedication, his professionalism, and caring manner. His love of classical music and unwavering kindness and generosity brought comfort and calm to all who sat in his chair. Bob was a keen tennis player and loved the camaraderie of his friends on the golf course. He was a lifelong learner, along with Lee, taking courses through the long winter months. He was famous for his afternoon naps and for multitasking on a Saturday afternoon, watching golf (muted) on TV, listening to Saturday Afternoon at the Opera on the radio and reading The Globe and Mail. Bob loved the family cottage purchased by his Uncle Gordon the year he was born, where any excuse would do to light a roaring fire in the fireplace. Reading on the screen porch or playing a game of cribbage with a grandchild or a weekend guest were all part of cottage life. Ever curious and handy, Bob could often be found tinkering in the "stuio," fixing reading lamps, telling a good joke, or sharing the history of his family. Bob lived a life of purpose and compassion. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Waterside Inn in Port Credit from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In remembrance of Bob, please consider a donation to The Muskoka Conservancy, or Trillium Health Partners - Mississauga Hospital.
