It is with infinite sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of Robert Alan Kopstein. Left to mourn are his adored wife, Jasmine; and his beautiful daughters, Jordan (Brad) and Alexandra. Bobby's love of life, his infectious enthusiasm, his wonderful sense of humour, as well as his kind and gentle demeanour set an example for us each day and will be cherished in our broken hearts forever. He lived his life with insatiable curiosity, and he was fiercely intelligent. His presence filled a room and his absence from our lives will be deeply felt forever. Robert had a long, deeply fulfilling and distinguished career in the world of tax law. He was grateful for his mentors and the people he worked with in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. He was a selfless mentor to those who were fortunate to work alongside him. Robert always pushed for excellence and he never gave anything less. He was appreciated so much by his clients, for whom he was always looking for creative solutions, and he took great pride in being their fiercest advocate. Robert was a man of integrity and a man of substance. Bobby's love of solving complex corporate tax problems was surpassed only by his love for his family. He was, at his core, a family man. He was forever grateful for having found the love of his life with Jasmine. With her, he found his person. His most cherished times were spent in her company. He was so proud to see Jordan happy and settled in her life. He was just getting started with Alexandra who was his mirror image in so many ways. She was his companion, she shared his wicked sense of humour and she shared his joy of being outdoors. They were two peas in the same pod - together they had the best of times. We will do our best to keep his spirit alive for her. Robert worked hard, but he played hard – everything he did was done to the fullest. A natural athlete, he excelled at every sport he picked up from the time he was a young boy. Golf was his lifelong passion and some of his favourite times were spent on his annual golf trips, which started with golfing 36 holes a day and ended with watching his favourites at the Masters. Running was a lifelong pursuit that saw him run 3 Boston Marathons and countless others. Robert loved nature and being outside - whether it was skiing or snowshoeing or just walking with his dogs - he was happiest when he was outside with those he loved so much. Bobby was deeply loved by his friends and his family. He was predeceased by his loving mother, Doreen. He is survived by his father, Jerry; as well as his brother, Larry (Mady); and his sister, Nancy (Brahm) and their families. He will be missed by his mother-in-law, Gladys (with whom he was very close); his sister-in-law, Carmine (Jamie); and his nephews, Marcus and Jack, whom he adored. We were a close extended family, marking many occasions together regularly with family dinners. Bobby's energy was so big - our family times will never be the same - he will be forever missed. Bobby was the love of our lives. He made us laugh every day. He was our fiercest protector and our most enthusiastic cheerleader. At this time, we ask for your consideration as we make our way through this devastating loss. We will have a private family funeral for Robert. We ask that you please direct your condolences to:
