Robert LANDRY Obituary

ROBERT E. LANDRY It is with tremendous sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Robert E. Landry, known to family and friends as Bob, on April 20th, 2021. Bob had a big brain and a gentle soul. While successful in business, his true passion lay in the Arts where his involvement earned him the Order of Canada. Bobby remained young at heart throughout his 92 years. He had a keen sense of fashion and he once, in his eighties, was overheard saying he needed to download the latest Arcade Fire album. A great supporter of those he loved, he found particular pride in celebrating the pursuits and accomplishments of his nine grandchildren. Bob enjoyed life's simple pleasures and was happiest when found with a morning paper or ice cream cone in hand. His dry wit, warm smile, and comforting embrace will be missed by all those who were so very fortunate to spend time in his presence. He loved to ski and played tennis into his nineties, crediting his long and active life to a healthy diet and maple syrup which he believed to be a great lubricant for his joints. Always loving husband to Nicola Landry and the late Marietta (Peppy) Landry. A kind, gentle and trusting father to Michael (Lesley), Peter (Mary Ann), Rob, Anthony (Sara), Liane (Dave), Joanne (Ihor), and Stephanie. Loving grandfather to Alexie (James), Ghislaine (Michaela), Kaitlin, Megan (James), Bryan (Kyleen), Cameron (Alana), Anthony Jr, Michaela, Rachael, and his great-granddaughter, Adeline. Brother of the late Frederick Landry and caring Uncle to Catherine and Stephen (Bernadette). He will be forever cherished as a devoted family member to Michele Mandoli, Mark (Monique) and their children, Stephanie (Curtis), Sofia and Antonio. After earning a B Eng., at McGill University in 1950, Bob had a long career with Imperial Oil in Toronto and Ottawa where he retired as Vice President to start his own firm, Strategex Consultants. Among the many positions he held: Chairman of the Board of the National Arts Centre; Chairman of the Board of Governors, University of Ottawa; Chairman and Life Governor of the National Theatre School of Canada; Council Member, World Arts Forum; Director, Chairman or Vice President of the Boards for the Edmonton and Toronto Symphonies; Ottawa Heart Institute; Member of the Applebaum-Hebert Committee; Member of the Order of Canada. A Celebration of his Life will take place when Covid restrictions ease and we can all gather to remember this wonderful man properly.

Bob's memory will live on in the endowed bursary he created at the National Theatre School of Canada. His fellow Life Members join all of us at the School in sending Nicola and the children our heartfelt condolences. When the time is appropriate, please contact the School so that we may know to whom we should to send notices of the annual Landry bursary artist. May Bob's spirit soar!
