Robert LEE Obituary

ROBERT NORMAN LEE June 2, 1954 to August 24, 2022 Robert passed away peacefully in Toronto on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, after a brief journey with cancer. He was 68. Predeceased by his father, Norman, and his mother, Joyce; Robert will be deeply missed by his wife, Cheryl; his son, Tom; his brother, Derek (Nancy); his sisters, Dawne (Michael) and Shannon; and their families. From his hometown in Toronto to London, England, Sydney, Australia and everywhere in between, Robert had an enthusiasm for the world that few could match. Known affectionately among his friends in the global mining industry as the "The Riddler" and the "King of One-Liners," he took great pride in his work, home and family. A man of many ambitions, hobbies, and eclectic interests, he also had the uncanny ability to find joy in life's simplest pleasures. While Robert often quipped, "A good copy is better than a bad original," he was one of a kind. His generosity, humour and sincerity will always be remembered. In accordance with Robert's wishes, a private family service will be held. We will celebrate his life with family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Robert may be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

It's with a degree of sad irony that while attending a mining conference, I found out that my long term friend, work colleague and lover of life had passed away. There are times in everyone's journey when things just stop you in your tracks, and for me this is one of them. Robert was one of those friends in life that even after prolonged silence, you could pick up the phone and re-ignite your conversation as though no time had passed. As my mind turns to all those shared experiences with Robert, my thoughts also turn to Cheryl and Tom. RIP Robert.

With deepest sympathy to Robert's family and my condolences to all of you.

I have fond memories of working with Robert during a Hunter's Resources workshop at Uluru, Australia (Ayer's Rock) back in 1989.

My best regards

Dear Cheryl and Tom and family, we have such fond memories of Robert, starting with him playing guitar in our back yard in Toronto in the 70s. He shared his enthusiasm for music and art and film with his family and friends while enjoying great food, wine, and conversation. A sweet, funny man

I was very saddened to hear about Robert's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him these last two years at Echelon Wealth Partners, and getting to know him. Robert was a great colleague and a true gentleman whose bright, larger than life presence will be sorely missed.

Cheryl and Tom, I had the honour and privilege of working with The General at RBC in Mining Sales from 2004-2009. Robert spoke so often of you two even tho I never got the chance to meet you both, I feel like we have met. Robert was a Prince of a man, a gentleman and a scholar. There is a glimmer of the General in me as I have continued in his world of Global Mining. From the plethora of stories, the one liners, the wine induced opening comments, or the usual daily banter on the trading floor. I am honored to have had the privilege of working with him. I will raise a glass in Colorado to all of his many peers next month at the annual gold shows. Rest In Peace Robert.

For several years Robert and I spoke many times per week as he made sure his firm's mining investment opportunities were presented to our fund company. He was a hard-working diligent guy and a pleasure to work with. We also became friends over the years and found we had lots of common interests beyond mining, mainly in sports and fishing. We made two great trips to New Brunswick to fish for salmon on the Restigouche and Robert was a fine host in that happy place. Nearly a decade after I left the business, my 19 year old son worked with Robert for a summer and also much enjoyed his good nature and mining knowledge. We are sad to hear of Robert's passing and send condolences to his family. We've all lost a good guy.

I had the pleasure of working with Robert for the past several years and experience his sense of humour and one-liners. They reminded me of my father and regularly made me laugh! He was a professional right up to the end and will be missed. It was an honour to have had the opportunity to spend this time with him.

Dear Cheryl and family,
He was indeed one of a kind . I personally owe him for helping me with so many roadshows that allowed to promote the companies I represented , particularly with Alamos Gold. His enthusiasm, driven passion for our mining industry but specially his great sense of companionship and joie de vivre will be deeply missed.
My deepest condolences and though you don't know me I know you as Robert always spoke so highly about you .
Sincerely,
Victoria Vargas

Dear Cheryl and Tom
We were stunned to see the news of Rob´s passing. To have a husband and a father taken so quickly and so young leaves a terrible hole which only time can blunt the pain. We are thinking of you both at this sad time.
