Robert Bruce McCAFFREY

McCAFFREY, Robert Bruce, B.A., M.A. (September 23, 1938 – August 9, 2002)
After a short but valiant struggle with cancer, and with his children by his side, Bruce passed away peacefully at the London Regional Cancer Centre on August 9, 2002 at the age of 63. Bruce was the much loved father and friend of Shawna McCaffrey-Whitehead (Owen) and Ryan McCaffrey. He was the beloved son of C.K. McCaffrey of South Porcupine, Ontario and the late Margaret Jean McCaffrey (1999), special grandfather of Clea and Dallas McCaffrey-Whitehead, step-grandfather of Rusty James Whitehead. He is fondly remembered by our mother Ilonka Van Steenwyk. Bruce was the nephew of Vivian and Vic Haneberry of South Porcupine. He was a special friend to step-daughter Christie Nash. He will be missed by his family and his many friends and colleagues. Bruce was born in South Porcupine but grew up in Toronto. He was a graduate of the University of Toronto (B.A.) and the University of Western Ontario (M.A.). Bruce began his career as a secondary school teacher and spent the major portion of his working life in the investment business. He was the Member of the Provincial Legislature from 1977 to 1987 for the riding of Armourdale, North York and was the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Culture and Recreation (1978), Minister Without Portfolio (1981), Minister of Citizenship and Culture (1982), and Provincial Secretary for Social Development (1983). A service to celebrate Bruce's life will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A. W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), on Thursday, August 15, 2002 at 1 o'clock.
