December 23, 1947- February 2, 2025 "What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us." Helen Keller Surrounded by his family, Bob passed away peacefully in the same way that he lived his life, with thoughtfulness, sensitivity and grace. Forever in our hearts, he lived life to the fullest with adventure, pride, dignity and courage. In the 53rd year of their marriage, Bob leaves Penny, his devoted and loving life partner, his adored children Brad (Leslie Davidson), Leslie (Andy Dobbie) and Julie (Jeff Pleskach); all of whom he was so proud. He was and continues to be, the treasured Grandpa of Lucy and Carmen Pashby; Alexandra and Kara Dobbie; and Isla and Rowan Pleskach. He cherished his relationship with his brother Bill (Wendy Thompson) and sister Jane. He was closely connected to his extended family members, Barry Malcolm (Janet Beed); Barb and Rob Taylor; Wendy and Sean Hayes; and Judi Powell. He was predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Nancy Malcolm (2009) and Elizabeth Pashby (2011). He will be remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews and their families. Bob valued family life, prioritized early morning practices, concerts, recitals and tournaments, which he considered a privilege to attend. He enjoyed summer and winter family vacations exploring the beauty of Canada, the respite of cottage life and adventurous travel to many destinations. An eternal optimist, Bob encouraged his children and grandchildren to respect themselves and others when making life decisions, to be what ever they wanted to be, and to "always remember that the easiest person to be is yourself." He was a guiding light for his family, giving so much to others and asking for so little in return. He enjoyed travel opportunities, exploring and learning about the people, culture, history, geography and politics of various countries. Bob embraced retirement, enjoying the peaceful contentment of cottage life on Georgian Bay as an avid reader and by being one with nature. He enjoyed the welcome chaos of family gatherings as much as the opportunities to share life's simple pleasures. Bob attended Leaside High School and coached hockey and baseball in the Leaside community for many years. He attended the University of Toronto, drawn to the study of medicine, and he skillfully practiced both the science and the art of medicine. After completing his fellowship in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UCSF, California, he began his private ophthalmology practice in Toronto. His patients received compassionate and professional care for over 40 years. Working primarily at SickKids and Mount Sinai hospitals through his U of T affiliation, he was a highly regarded clinical and surgical teacher and mentor. He also provided eye care with the CNIB Eye Van to Manitoulin Island and with the No Boundaries team from SickKids that provided much needed access for children to dental, general surgical and ophthalmic care in many countries. Bob valued his many reciprocal friendships which he loyally fostered over the years. He will be deeply missed by his many friends and his extended family. Bob requested a private family gathering. Please honour his memory by performing an act of kindness, expecting nothing in return.
