RAMSAY, Robert Beattie
Son of William Beattie Ramsay and Mabel Macfarlane, formerly of Regina, passed away at the age of 77, on July 10, 2001 in Rockyview Hospital, Calgary following a massive stroke. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Beatrice and their five children and twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The Ramsay's five children, William Beattie Ramsay (Catherine) of Regina, Robin Harron (David) of Priddis Greens AB, Barbara Ramsay (Rene) of Washington, D.C., Shirley Neil of Edmonton and Alan Ramsay (Sue) of Saskatoon, SK were by his side for most of the three weeks he was in hospital. Mr. Ramsay was born in Toronto due to the fact that his Mother had travelled there to meet her husband who was returning from Chamonix France where his team, the Toronto Granites Hockey Team had just won the first Olympic Gold Medal in Hockey in 1924. The Sports Page of the Globe carried the headline ;Ramsay beats the stork by twenty minutes.; Bud Ramsay grew up and received his primary education in Regina, prior to enlisting in the RCAF in 1943 when he was in his first year at University of Toronto studying Architecture. He became a Flying Officer and remained in the Air Force until the end of the war. He returned to University of Toronto and graduated in Architecture in 1949. He then returned to Regina and set up his practice. His major accomplishments included the Regina Post Office, the Co-op, the early Sasktel Building, the Sisters of the Precious Blood retreat, the Yorkton Regional High School and the Swift Current Regional High School, The Melfort Nursing Home and the Provincial Geriatric Centre.In 1973 the Ramsays moved to Rothesay NB where he was Project Architect for Zeidler Roberts Architects for seven years, directing work on the Saint John Regional Hospital. He then moved to Edmonton where he was Project Architect for the University Health Sciences Centre for five years. Prior to his retirement in 1995 he was Director of Administration for Zeidler Roberts. Mr. Ramsay was a member of the Royal Architectural Institute, the American Association of Architects and Rotary in Regina and Saint John. He was a member and designed the Wascana Golf and Country Club in Regina. He was the President of the Regina Pats Junior Hockey Club for ten years following his Dad's ten years as its President. Bud Ramsay will be sadly missed by his wife and five children and their spouses and his twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The memorial service for Bud Ramsay will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2001 at Lakeview United Church, in Regina, at 2:00 p.m. Following the service the family will travel to Lumsden Cemetery where he will be laid beside his Mother, his Father, his Aunt Beth Ramsay and his baby sister Margot. Our sincere thanks to Doctor Fred Moriarty and to the fabulous staff in Unit 61 at Rocky View Hospital who helped us care for Grandpa for three weeks and to our friends who kept in touch.
