Robert RASTORP Obituary
ROBERT HARRY RASTORP Robert Harry Rastorp, born in Matheson, Ontario, Canada, on September 1, 1932, died in Costa Rica on November 26, 2022, aged 90 years. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home. A private memorial service will be held. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert C. Rastorp and Florence (Child) Rastorp; and his brother, Wayne Rastorp. Beloved and will be missed by his wife, Trudy (Walsh); son, Robert and spouse, Lynn; nephew, Darryl and spouse, Elizabeth; grandniece, Zofia; grandnephew, Zane; and numerous relations and friends. A graduate of the University of Toronto, who found a talent for advertising and marketing, Bob spent much of his successful career at Union Carbide in both its Toronto and New York offices, ultimately attaining the rank of Senior Vice-President of its Canadian operations. The Canadian consumer productions division later spun off into the First Brands Canada Corporation, of which Bob was the founding Presi-dent and C.E.O. Outside of the office, he had a passion for magic and was a member of the Hat & Rabbit Club, the Society of American Magicians, the Psychic Entertainers Association, the International Brotherhood of Magicians who conferred upon him the Order of Merlin-Excelsior, and the Magic Circle in London, England. He had the pleasure of personally meeting a range of leading conjurors of the twentieth century, from Harry Blackstone Sr. and Jr. to Siegfried & Roy. In addition to magic and mentalism, Bob had a wide range of interests from esoteric research, to science fiction and fantasy, to art and archeology with a particular emphasis on Ancient Egypt. Upon retirement in 1995, and at an age when many would be shy of new adventures, Bob and Trudy relocated to a mountaintop home in Costa Rica, immersing themselves in a new language and culture and tending to their shade-grown organic coffee plantation. Bob also enjoyed travelling the world as he visited every continent save Antartica. Bob loved his return visits to Canada, reconnecting with old friends and spending time at the family farm. Bob will be remembered for his eloquence, quick wit and sense of humour, and his love of meeting people and making new friends. He will be remembered fondly by all those who knew him. Memorial donations may be made to the Scott Mission and the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
