ROBERT SANDERS Obituary
(June 20, 1935 – December 21, 2025) Robert "Bob" Sanders passed away peacefully, on December 21, 2025, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Bob was the much-beloved husband of Alison (née Wishart, Van Duzer) Sanders; and a loving father to Mary (Stan) Adamson and Geoffrey (Donna) Sanders. He was an adored grandfather to Rebecca and Michael Adamson; and a much-loved stepfather to John Van Duzer, Doug (Karen) Van Duzer, and Judy (John) Healy. Bob was also a cherished step-grandfather to Ian (Maddie), Evan, Anna, Sarah, Caitlin, Rachel, Noah, Jack, and great-step-granddaughter, Elizabeth. Bob lived most of his life in Galt, Cambridge. He was the only child of Lionel and Ruth Sanders. He attended Central School, St. Andrew's, Galt Collegiate Institute, and the University of Toronto, where he earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering and Business. A professional engineer, Bob worked at Algoma Steel and Alcan, and later became Vice President of Manufacturing at Babcock & Wilcox before transitioning into a second career in investment planning. Bob gave a lifetime of dedicated service to his city, region, and province, particularly in the healthcare sector. He served as Chair of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, Chair of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation, and as a member of the Regional Health Network Board. He was elected as a Director of the Ontario Hospital Association and was later appointed to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario in Toronto. In addition, Bob served on numerous community boards and organizations in Cambridge, including the Grand River Conservation Authority, United Way, Interfaith Counselling (as a founding director), and the Boy Scouts of Canada, among many others. Bob was an active member of PROBUS, the Grand Valley Group of Engineers, the Masonic Lodge, and in later years, Central Presbyterian Church. He leaves behind an indelible legacy of community service and a wide circle of enduring friendships. Bob deeply loved his family and friends. He was known for his warm sense of humour and love of telling jokes. He enjoyed gardening, camping, travelling, reading, dogs, and had a particular fondness for Reid's chocolates. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital and the compassionate staff at Riverbend, especially Alison's and Bob's devoted PSW, Nancy, for her years of kindness and dedication. Cremation has taken place, with arrangements entrusted to Corbett Funeral Home, Cambridge. Expressions of remembrance may be made to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation or to the Central Presbyterian Church Roof Repair Fund. A funeral service and celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, January 17th, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, Queen Square, Cambridge. "A life well lived. A man well loved." May his memory continue to be a blessing and an inspiration to all who knew him.
