Robert TOPP Obituary

ROBERT RICHARD TOPP (Bob) April 25, 1934 - October 21, 2021 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bob Topp. He passed away peacefully at home in Toronto, surrounded by his family, after a long, full, and happy life. He leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth, and their three children, Leslie (Neil Kenny), John (Carmen Doyle), and Jamie (Pia Pace-Asciak), and six grandchildren, Rosemarie, Elizabeth, Evangeline, Charlie, Daniel, and Zahra, all dear to his heart. Third child of Ted and Edith Topp, he was predeceased by his brother Donald, and is survived by his sister Mary. He had close bonds with his and Elizabeth's extended families, in Canada, the US and Trinidad, and will be fondly remembered by his many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob grew up between Toronto and Muskoka, where he had deep roots, never missing a summer at the island on Lake Rosseau. A graduate of Western, he became a Chartered Accountant with Clarkson Gordon, before joining the mining industry (first Campbell Chibougamou and then Sherritt). He then enjoyed a fulfilling second career as a founding partner of Nexus Investment Management. In retirement he generously devoted his skills and energies to associations and campaigns devoted to protecting and maintaining the lake environment that he knew so well. Raising awareness about the climate crisis was a more recent passion, expressed through a blog which managed to be urgent and amusing at the same time: bobsthoughts.video.blog A great lover of skiing, cycling, sailing, tennis, and squash, Bob loved sports, but enjoyed the socialising afterwards even more. He took great pleasure in his friends and was a firm support to many of them in later life, while also enjoying the company of younger people and always having time to talk and advise. He had a keen and ever-present sense of humour, never taking himself too seriously. His death leaves a big hole in many lives. A funeral service will be held on October 30th at 10 a.m. at Christ Church Deer Park, 1170 Yonge Street, Toronto. Covid restrictions mean capacity will be limited to 120.

Bob Topp was a very fine human. I have such fond memories of early family times so I just wanted to share my condolences with you, Liz and family. Oakville wasn't the same once you moved to Toronto.
