Robin KIND Obituary

ROBIN LEE KIND 1962-2024 Passed away on February 14, 2024, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Robin was born in San Fransisco, CA on August 14, 1962, to Betty Jo and Leon Kind and spent her formative years growing up in Bedford, Nova Scotia. After graduating from Dalhousie University and subsequently, from Law at the University of Toronto (distinction), Robin joined Stikeman Elliot practicing Corporate law before focusing on Environmental law. She joined the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) in 1994. Robin progressed from Senior Environmental Lawyer to General Council and to Executive Vice President/General Council of the 1000-person Provincial Agency. Robin lived Diversity and Inclusion leading OCWA's D&I program. She had a humbleness and understanding of First Nations implementing a traditional knowledge circle at OCWA and promoting partnering with more than 50 Ontario First Nations. A natural leader, she mentored the senior professionals and Management at the agency with empathy and compassion. Robin was the 'heart and soul' of OCWA. Her interests were many and varied from art, jazz, classical music, poetry and literature to sports. Her knowledge of the history and strategies of NFL football impressed even die-hard NFL fans; her mastery and understanding of wines impressed the most experienced sommeliers. She loved playing golf, tennis, skiing and walking the shores of Georgian Bay. Her laughter, sense of humour and true joie de vivre touched all who met her. Robin's straight forward approach and enthusiasm was infectious. A complex and compassionate woman of wide-ranging interests, Robin had a deep passion for the environment, a love for travel, wine and fine dining and an incredible sense of design. Robin was open-minded, progressive, generous and above all else, loving. Beyond all of these things was her love for her family. To her husband and family she will always be remembered as a dedicated, loving and attentive sister, godmother, grandmother and wife who supported them in everything, whether it was supporting their careers or pouring them a glass of great wine, she was always there. Robin and her husband, Rob Andrews moved full time to Balm Beach (Tiny, ON) fulfilling Robin's lifelong love of being on a beach. Robin is survived by her mother, Betty Jo; her two brothers, Brooks and Peter (Vanessa); her niece and nephew, Natasha and Joshua; Mike and Kendra and Matt, Falon and Elle. She was dearly loved and will be very much missed by all of them. A celebration of her life will take place at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Springwater (Elmvale) on Friday, February 23rd from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with the eulogy at 3:00 p.m.

My condolences to Betty Jo, Brooks, Peter, Rob and all of Robin's family. I have only seen Robin very sporadically over the past years since we both left Bedford which is many years ago, but when we did meet, it was like time had not passed, we shared the love of our childhood hometown, similar friendships and school stories, easy conversations, and childhood friends and happy memories. I saw Robin only a few years ago, and she was in such a happy place and time of her life. It makes me happy to know that she was in a good place, with great people she loved near to her. She was a lovely, kind soul. She will be missed. Love Cathie Fraser

I knew her mother Betty Jo and her father Klee. They were both loving and generous. I am sure Robin was in that family tradition.

I was fortunate and privileged to work with Robin on environmental and health & safety matters during the Ontario Clean Water Agency's first decade. I am shocked and saddened to learn of Robin's passing. Sincere condolences to Robin's family, friends and colleagues.

I worked with Robin on a number of files when I was legal counsel at the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and she was counsel at OCWA. Robin was smart and dedicated and had a great practical side to her keen legal mind. She clearly garnered a lot of respect within the organization and could stick handle her way through complex issues efficiently and effectively. Although always busy, Robin found the time to make a personal connection in our interactions. It was truly a pleasure to have worked with her. I was completely shocked and saddened to read about her passing.

Thinking of her family and friends and sending sincere d condolences to you all.

We are all saddened to hear about your loss of Robin. Our families shared so many fond memories. As kids you sometimes don´t realize just how special it is to have a family that wants to spend time together. Our families enjoyed so many good times over the years. As time marched on we lost touch, but the memories never fade. May you find peace in all your fond memories of Robin and know our thoughts are with you all.
Much Love,
David, Debby & Dodi Rabinovitz

As one of Robin´s close friends during law school and having kept in touch since then, I can say that Robin was a life-long friend. She was a fun-loving, kind and generous person with a passion for travelling (NYC, Tulum and Italy were her favourite places), long dinners with good wines and laughing over story telling.

I have some gorgeous memories of times spent in Tulum, a birthday party in NYC and home cooked meals made in her home.

We have lost a person the lived her last name in all the she did. She will be missed and always remembered.

With an eternal hug and heavy heart I thank you for the many precious moments we shared Robin.

I knew Robin years ago while she was at Stikeman but lost track of her as she and I both moved to other places over time. I am delighted to read what a full life she had, am jealous of her having managed to move to Balm Beach where I spent part of my childhood and saddened to learn that her life was cut short as it was. Her last name was the most apt of anyone I have met and described her to a "T". A sad loss.

I loved so much about Robin. I was fortunate to meet her in our shared commitment to clean drinking water for First Nation communities. It didn´t take long for Robin and I to develop a meaningful friendship. I loved the twinkle in her eye when she had something exciting to share with me. I loved how she shared similar love for water, beaches, golf and fun vacations. While we didn´t get to travel together, we shared lots of stories and photos. We loved to share in conversation over dinner. It was exceptionally specially to share this with our guys. Grateful for those special dinner nights with Rob and Robin and my Richard. Forever in my heart. I will bring Robin with me in my travel. I celebrate you Robin my beautiful friend. Love MJ

I am devastated to hear this sad news. As a new immigrant trying to fit and succeed in Canadian water sector, Robin was always available to chat, support, mentor and coach me through some difficult times. She was always there to wish me in our collective wins and provide constructive feedback with positive energy. Me and my family will be forever grateful for her continued support till the end that guided my passion and commitment to work in Water sector and be a good public servant. Sending condolences to Rob and entire family during this difficult time. Gone too soon. Rest in peace and we will continue to pursue her legacy.

I worked with Robin at Stikeman, Elliott many years ago and remember has a smart, committed and hardworking lawyer with, even then, a passion for environmental law issues. She had a generosity of spirit that made it a pleasure to work with her. My condolences on your loss of a kind, compassionate and committed person.
