Rodger RENTON Obituary

RODGER RENTON Rodger Earl Renton, of Hanover and formerly of Durham, passed away at the Hanover and District Hospital on Monday, July 4, 2022 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary Lee Renton (née Bolitsky). Loving father of Christine and her husband, Keith Pollock of Waterloo (Fraser (Mengdi Lui), Tanner, Garret); Joanne and her husband, Christopher McElroy of Kitchener (Caitlin, Heather (Chad Routliffe), Matthew); Darin Renton and his wife, Keri Johnston of Toronto; and Daniel Renton (Dylan) of Southington, Connecticut. Dear brother of Robert Renton (Eileen), William Renton (Gertie), and Douglas Renton (Gisela). Brother-in-law of Neil Lyons, Audrey Renton, and Marie Renton. Predeceased by his siblings, Anna Robinson and her late husband, Howard, Eleanor Lyons, George Renton, Jim Renton, and Emilie Mooney. Rodger was a man of few words who ran deep with love, loyalty, patience, and a quiet sense of humour. Rodger graduated from Waterloo Lutheran University in 1962 having been admitted, after the term commenced, on the strength of his grades that he had clipped out of the local newspaper. He was sponsored with generous loans from his brothers for which he was always grateful. Rodger then spent his career as a high school math teacher in Durham and subsequently at John Diefenbaker Secondary School in Hanover. He took early retirement to assist his beloved Mary Lee over the next 25 years who had suffered a debilitating stroke in mid-life. Rodger is remembered by those who loved him for his hand-crafted furniture, toys and mementos; his tireless work on behalf of the Grey County Historical Society; his public service in the founding of a Grey County archives at the Grey Roots Museum & Archives; and his affinity for his family history and the family farm. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Carol Hudson who took great care of Rodger, and the Acute Care staff at the Hanover and District Hospital, including Audra, Sherri, Natalie and Doctor Marc Labelle who provided Rodger with his end of life care. Visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Friday, July 8th from 5 - 8 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Durham on Saturday at 11 a.m. If you wish to attend the funeral mass, we kindly ask that you register by visiting the Funeral Home website (www.mccullochwatsonfuneralhome.ca) or by calling 519-369-3837. Interment at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Donations are welcome to Grey Roots Museum & Archives or an organization of your choice.

I am sorry to hear. Rodger's committed work toward establishing the Grey County Archives when it was at the Glenelg location near Durham is remembered fondly.
