ROGER DOE Obituary

Roger Graham Doe, KC, born in Paget, Bermuda, on June 25, 1933; died on August 2, 2025, peacefully, in Lyon, France, in hospital while on vacation. Roger is survived by his wife and soulmate for the past 47 years, Margaret; his children, Linda (Nick Abrahams), Peggy (John Lennard), Gail, and Douglas (Susan); his stepson, Darrin Parker (Yvette); adopted daughter, TrudyAnn (Jan Grude). Poppa to his 12 grandchildren and Granpoppa to his four great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother, Ross (Dianna); and nephew, Chris (Helen) of Bermuda. Son of the late William Lestock Doe and Helen Martha Orchard Doe. Roger earned his HBA at University of Western Ontario in 1953 and his LLB at Osgoode Hall in 1958 (Silver Medal). Roger began his corporate/commercial and securities law career at Campbell, Godfrey & Lewtas (now Fasken) in 1958, where he practiced until retirement in 1998. He was on the Boards of several of his clients, including Dofasco Steel for approx. 30 years, and Chair of its Corporate Governance Committee and on the Special Committee negotiating Dofasco's eventual takeover in 2006. He was on the Boards of his clients, Sharp Canada and Canada Suzuki, as well as others. He loved the practice of law and was a great mentor to many. He was known to be wise, balanced, fair and supportive in all his interactions. His hobbies included skiing, golf and thoroughbred horseracing. He would go on several trips a year with his golfing buddies, and he and Marg enjoyed golf in their community and in Hilton Head, SC. He bought his first racehorse at a cocktail party in the '70s, along with his friend, Ken Scott. They continued buying and racing horses until the '80s, when his partnership with Ben Hutzel began. That continued until 1994 when he joined the syndicate, The Very Dry Stable, a very successful syndicate of 12 members. After retirement in 1999, Roger and Marg moved from Toronto to the Canterbury Common Community in Port Perry. He joined the Canterbury Common Residence Assoc. Board and served as Chair of the Governance Committee, the Canterbury Common Planning and Action Committee and the Canterbury Transition Committee and played an integral role in negotiating a successful arrangement for the development of part of the property that was acceptable to all parties. Roger and Marg enjoyed many summers at the family cottage on Balsam Lake with family and friends, and many golf vacations in Hilton Head, SC. Roger loved his family immensely to whom he provided much love, wisdom and guidance. He was truly loved and admired by his family and many others. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Canterbury Common Community Centre, 127 Waterbury Cresc., Port Perry. Tributes at noon, followed by lunch. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honour to Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham at P.O. Box 961, Port Perry, ON L9L 1A8.

I came to know Roger in the mid 1980s when I came to work at Campbell Godfrey and Lewtas. He was very kind to me and personified how Campbell Godfrey was different from the other Bay Street law firms. He was instrumental in my becoming a partner in 1988. He was always a gentleman and was also a legal scholar. I owe him a huge debt of gratitude. I have many fond memories of Roger and Marg together. Blessings to Marg at this difficult time. You are in my thoughts.

I was a young lawyer at Campbell Godfrey in the early 1980s, when Mr. Doe was a senior partner. He treated everyone well, including me, and was a strong lawyer, liked and respected by all. A credit to the Profession. He helped me as a young lawyer. I owe him a debt of gratitude. Well done, Roger.
