ROGER JENNER Obituary

(July 23, 1938 - December 23, 2025) Roger's early childhood years in England, like those of his mother, were shaped by the absence of a father called away to war. Surviving the Blitz in the countryside of Kent, Roger next faced two lengthy and deadly bouts of TB. Despite these challenges, Roger earned a scholarship to study math at Oxford University, entering St. Peter's College in 1959 following two years of mandatory service in the RAF. Graduating with bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics, Roger began actuarial studies while working for Norwich Union and met his future wife, Patricia, on secondment to its Toronto office. Roger was admitted a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1971 and eventually offered a position with Sun Alliance Life Insurance's Canadian subsidiary, where he served as president for many years until his retirement in 1995. In the course of his insurance career, Roger made several socially conscious decisions on the issue of coverage that were ahead of their time. Roger is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia; his children, Natalie (Rob), Steven (Hana), and Leanne; his grandchildren, Phoebe, Simon, Linda, and Piper; and his younger brothers, Graham and Paul, and their families. For half a century, Roger and Pat built a wonderful life together in Oakville, Ontario, where Roger - an extremely witty, loyal, and curious man - enjoyed a vast network of friends, sport, and community interests, including regularly donating blood to the Canadian Red Cross and delivering Meals on Wheels well into his 80s. Nothing gave Roger more pride and joy, however, than the accomplishments of his family, and his support towards all our dreams made him a model of generosity and foresight. He fostered in everyone a strong spirit of competition and ambition while stressing the importance of fairness, responsibility, and respect towards all. He was a towering presence in our lives not only physically (standing 6 ft. 3), but intellectually and morally. Born into a world wrenched apart by war, Roger lived every year thereafter in forward motion, never looking back. He was a great man, and will be greatly missed.

Played squash & golf with Roger for donkeys years. Never boring. And you better know what you're talking about, because Roger would correct you if not. Latterly he'd show up for lunch only after our
winter indoor golf. Great conversationalist. Speaking on behalf of the other guys in group, we'll miss you, Roger.

On behalf of myself and the Rupcic family, sending our heartfelt condolences to the Jenner family, mine especially to my oldest and dearest friend Steve. Growing up in the 80´s, half my time was spent at Griffith Place, more often than not, at the Jenner´s Residence, where Mrs. and Mr. Jenner (Pat &Roger) were always so kind to me, as well as to all of Steves friends. And even as a youngster, I could tell, Steve had a great dad as well. R.I.P. Mr. Jenner
