ROLAND WILLIS Obituary

At Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on August 21, 2025, in his 84th year. Born on September 21, 1940, in Toronto, Rollie grew up in small town Brampton as the son of a high school principal (John Willis) and teacher (Gwendolyn Willis). Rollie is survived by his wife, Marilyn (née Poole) of 54 years; and his five children, Betsey (husband, Drew), John (wife, Catherine), Kate (husband, Jeff), Ben (wife, Angela), and Peter (partner, Erika). Forever remembered by his brother, Peter (wife, Linda); and his ten grandchildren. Missed dearly by his "Farm," "Politics" and "Sheridan College" families. Having been born during WWll, he would become a huge history buff. Attended Elvis Presley's only visit to Toronto (Maple Leaf Gardens in 1957 – sat fourth row). Graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Commerce and Law Degrees. Volunteered to assist with his first political leadership campaign in the late 1950s (Tommy Douglas). Rollie loved life and had boundless energy to do multiple things at the same time. If he wasn't busy, he wasn't happy. Rollie had a big personality and a huge passion for politics. He practiced family law at Willis & Torry, with his partner, Christine Torry, for over 40 years in Mississauga. He was appointed Queen's Counsel by the Lieutenant Governor, Recipient of the Queen Elizabeth ll Diamond Jubilee Medal, Past President of the Peel Law Association, Past Vice-President of the PC Party of Ontario & held past Director roles with the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board, Children's Aid Society, Rapport House Inc, Against Drunk Driving and Peel Regional Housing Authority. He was a Professor of Business Law for 30 years at Sheridan College. Rollie and Marilyn travelled every year far-and-wide to over 50 countries (many with friends). He was happiest in his apple orchard. As a self-taught farmer (with help from many friends and family), the orchard grew to over 2,500 trees and a thriving entertainment farm. Lover of Ford 8 N tractors, Chevy trucks and "real" Country and Western music. Visitation service will be held from 2 - 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Turner and Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario, Mississauga. Funeral will be held at 3 p.m., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to https://alzheimer.ca/en.

Earlier today

Rollie was a mentor to me. Guided me in setting up my law practice and was a valued friend. My kids loved his orchard. The world has lost a one of a kind dynamo.

Marilyn, we are so sorry for your loss. We have such good memories of travel with Rollie and you. He was certainly a force of nature and will be missed.
