RONALD ELLIOTT Obituary
Ronald "Ron" Elliott, BA, FCPA, FCA, passed away peacefully, with his family around him on September 9, 2025, just shy of his 88th birthday. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary (née Burns); his daughters, Judy, Karen (Sean), and Sherry; his four beloved grandchildren, Scott, Marin, Maia and Eden; and his niece, Cheryl (Geoff) Holton (née Mashford). Ron was born in Niagara Falls, ON, and was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Marilyn Mashford and Linda Elliott. Ron wouldn't want to be described with superlatives despite his many achievements which are listed below. He wanted to provide for his family, give back to his community, contribute to his profession as a Chartered Accountant and live a good life. He did all of that and more. Those who knew him well understood that he was an accountant with an artist's soul, loved playing host, and always wanted to leave people feeling better than when he found them. Whether he was writing witty lyrics for a song, hosting a great party with Mary, mixing up the martinis, creating towering floral and candlelit centerpieces, transforming the family home into a Christmas wonderland, or hanging out with his grandkids, his creativity and thoughtfulness shone through. In his retirement he enjoyed travelling, bridge games and golf. Ron graduated from the Ivey School of Business at Western University and achieved his designation as a Chartered Accountant in 1962. He practiced in Ontario, British Columbia and finally Alberta, making Calgary his forever home. He consistently gave back to his profession and was a Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta from 1985-90 serving as President from 1989-90. During that time, he was on the Board of Governors of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants from 1988-90. He was also the Chair of the Auditing Standards Committee (predecessor of the Auditing Standards Board) from 1979-80 after five years as a member of the Committee. In 1991 he received his FCA (Fellow of the Chartered Accountants) designation for his service. The greater community also benefited from his efforts and Ron served in Board positions with Alberta Sport Council, Olympic Trust of Canada, Parks Foundation Calgary, Lougheed House Conservation Society, Street Teams, and the Management Advisory Council of the Faculty of Management (University of Calgary). Ron was a long-time member of Rotary Club of Calgary earning the designation of a Paul Harris Fellow for his contributions. Out of respect for Ron's wishes, no service will be held. He would want you to gather with the friends and family you love and make more memories together.
