DR. RONALD F. PACE On Thursday, October 17, 2019, Dr. Ronald F. Pace passed away peacefully & gracefully at the age of 64 at Lisaard House after a fear less battle with cancer. He is sur vived by his wife Ellen Pace (Stewart), children Michael (Les ley) Pace, Alison (Graham) Bake laar and granddaughter Abbigail Bakelaar. He will also be sadly missed by siblings; Anne Walker (Harry), John Pace (Sheilagh), Mary French-Pace (Roy), Allan Pace (Lin), and Carla Pace as well as his many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-neph ews.Ronald was born on March 29, 1955 in London, Ontario to Dr. William and Elisabeth Pace. Ron was an adventurous child, gleeful ly spending his summers in the Ontario northern woods, embrac ing all that the Canadian wilder ness has to offer. Being a lifelong lover of learning, he graduated from medical school at The Uni versity of Western Ontario in 1979, having been granted admis sion after completing only two years of undergraduate studies. Ron continued to specialize in he patobiliary surgery, and went on to achieve a thriving general sur gery practice in Kitchener-Water loo for 25 years. To say that Ron had a passion for his surgical prac tice is an understatement. He re lentlessly dedicated his time to compassionately care for and serve his many patients. Ron al ways preached, "you have to love what you do", and the fel low doctors and nurses that sur rounded and supported him every day made that an easy mantra to follow.Ron was a man of many talents. Besides being a well-respected surgeon, he loved woodworking, skiing, golfing, travelling, red wine, and spending time at his beloved cabin on Ka wagama Lake. He was truly one of a kind. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him, will nev er forget his boisterous laugh, his adventurous spirit, and his larger than life personality.A celebration of his colourful life will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S., Water loo at 3 p.m. The family has re quested that donations be made in his memory to the Kitchener- Waterloo Woodworking and Craft Centre or the Grand River Region al Cancer Centre, which may be arranged through the funeral home 519-745-8445 or www.erb good.com where condolences and tributes may also be shared. Ron's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, that you plant a white pine tree to keep his north woods spirit alive.

I was an intern at Victoria hospital in London. Ron was a 4th year student. I was destined for anesthesia so that while together on cardiac surgery i shuffled off to the coffee shop while Ron joyfully scrubbed complex cases. Several years later our paths crossed in Halifax. He was a delightful individual. Sincere condolences.

He saved my life. And I hoped I was his friend. We worked at the KW woodworking shop. He was a great man and a fine woodworker. God Bless Ron. Thanks for your friendship. Bud

Not only was Ron the best boss (1986 in Kingston - I've blocked the date out as I was so sad he was leaving) I've ever had but also a dear friend. I have many happy memories of Ron, Ellen, Mike and Alison including when they lived in England for a year while Ron studied hepato-biliary surgery and I mailed him boxes of Kraft dinner, his Dictaphone, and a small bottle of Canadian Club! I am grateful for having continued our friendship through the years. Sending my love & Hugs and as always

Oh my, I was so saddened to read this! Dear Dr Pace saved my mom. Even today doctors still talk about his superior laparoscopy surgical skill. He was a legend at GR Hosp Kitch. His humor and such kindness towards my "sweet little lady" mother, as he called her, will never be forgotten. Dr Pace was truly a gift from God and now will rest in His arms in peace and everlasting love (we are spiritual) and I send condolences of prayer and great appreciative thanks to his family for one amazing human being.

Let me try this again. I am truly saddened by the loss of Ron Pace and wish to extend my deepest condolences to the entire Pace family. I got to know Ron professionally and socially during my time at SMGH and GRH. I was impressed with both his wit and wisdom. Although I am not a poker player, Ron was a regular at Maverick night and was often the recipient of the bragging rights for winning the event, and more often by his wit and horseshoes! More recently, Ron gave me a gift of handcrafted bowl in appreciation for my care. It may have been the last bowl off the lathe and is proudly displayed in our home as a reminder of his tremendous talent. You will be missed by your colleagues, patients and especially your family my friend.

I was impressed by both his wit and wisdom. Although I am not a poker player, Ron was a fixture at the annual Maverick night and was often the recipient of the bragging rights of winning the event, and often as a result of his wit and wisdom. More recently, Ron gave me one of his handcrafted wooden bowls in appreciation for my care. It may have been the last bowl off the lathe, but it is proudly displayed in our home and will be a constant reminder of the tremendous talent that Ron possessed. You will be missed by your patients and colleagues, my friend.

Dearest Pace Family. I want to express my condolences in Ronald's passing. In 2014 Ron save my life by removing my cancer, in 2015 He did a 2nd surgery to correct a hernia. . I had a reaction and his fast thinking and professionalism Saved my life . I am forever grateful . during my last visit with Ronald I had to get some fluid removed post surgery and I remember him smiling and saying we have to look after his knee knowing full well it was my abdomen just to get a response. Dr. Pace performed surgery on my older sister, both of my parents and on myself. I guess you could say he was our family surgeon! Whenever we were wheeled into that operating room, knowing Dr. Pace was at the helm left us with a sense of peace because we knew he was the best in his field. He said it like it was but did it with such compassion. We will miss his smile and his sense of humour but most of all, this community that he served with his heart and soul will miss the extraordinarily talented surgeon that he was. May God bless you, his family, and may you find comfort in the lasting memories that he left each and every one of you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this very difficult time.

A wonderful doctor who did fantastic work with me when I was admitted for emergency surgery. Calm, cool and collected and made me feel as though my potentially life threatening complications were nothing but old hat to him. I appreciate you and everything the you did for me and others like me.
