Rose was an indomitable force in The Globe and Mail newsroom.
She was a careful copy editor, never rushed.
And she could put you in your place with just a look: She'd lower her head and squint at you through her lashes, often with the back of one fisted-hand on her hip. You got the message.
Rose was straight out of 1950s central casting -- always dressed for work, and always dressed with a hat for a walk outside.
She was a pleasure to work with [actually, she would insist I word this sentence as "It was a pleasure to work with her." No dangling prepositions for Rose!]
I'm glad to learn she had so many loving nieces and nephews

Ta-ta for now, Rose.

Rose and I worked for just ages on the News Desk at The Globe and Mail. At first I thought she was a bit peppery, but soon I realized it was just the plummy English accent and really she was a dear. We rode The Globe through many different regimes and editing and page composition systems. Rose was part of the eclectic gaggle of lovers of the English language who made The Globe a great place to work. Glad to hear that she took her formidable editing skills to the Arts and Letters Club. In retirement, we ran into one another from time to time in the Davisville-Yonge area of Toronto. Always an occasion for a cheerful word and a big hug.

I enjoyed knowing Rose through the Arts and Letters Club. We also met outside for lunch. What a shame to mark the passing of such a pleasant, cultured person with a fearless sense of clothing. She loved hats. And I remember walking together along Bloor Street on a summer day, Rose with her white lace parasol.

I had the great pleasure of assisting Rose with her copy editing efforts on behalf of the Arts & Letters Club, on the Club´s monthly "Bible" of Club events and fellow members´ doings, "LAMPSletter" Her delight in the pleasure and power of the well chosen word was infectious, and her roguish sense of humour is greatly missed. "... and may Light Perpetual shine upon her"

Rose was a longtime member of the Arts and Letters Club. We treasured her dry wit and knowledge of literature and music. She is missed already.

I remember Rose well from my brief internship at the Globe and Mail in the summer of 1976. She was a good soul. Condolences to her family and friends.
