ROSEMARIE HUTTER Obituary

We are saddened to announce that our loving mother, Rosemarie Therese Hutter (nee deVerteuil), passed away peacefully, at Joseph Brant Hospital on December 29, 2025. Rosemarie was predeceased by her loving husband, Hank. She leaves behind her four children, Joseph (Janet), John (Laura), Anne-Marie (Dennis) and Roger (Laura). She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Rosemarie was a wonderful, caring mother and a cherished "Bonma" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by the many wonderful friends she made during the past several years she and Hank lived at Heritage Place in Burlington. Born and raised in Trinidad, Rosemarie left the West Indies with her best friend at the age of 18 and immigrated to Canada. Soon after her arrival, she found a job working at The Royal Bank on St. Clair Avenue in Toronto. Her life changed forever one special summer day in 1953 when she stepped onto the St. Clair Avenue streetcar and was immediately noticed by a young engineering student from the University of Toronto. This chance meeting resulted in a first date with her beloved Hank and led to 67 years of a wonderful marriage - one that served as an example to all of her children and grandchildren. From an early age, Rosemarie had an eye for fashion and she became known for her sense of style. Even at the age of 92, she rarely left the house unless she was dressed to impress, elegantly accessorized with a hat and scarf. Rosemarie appreciated the little joys in life such as baking, knitting, playing a daily Scrabble game with friends, spending time with her great grandchildren and enjoying holiday time with her family. Friends of the Hutter boys could often be found gathering at the Daphne Avenue house on Sundays knowing there would be a few loaves of Rosemarie's garlic bread heating in the oven. Nobody ever left her home hungry. But Rosemarie was never the same after she lost her beloved Hank. She often talked about how much she wanted to be reunited with him. The entire Hutter family can take comfort knowing she and Hank are now back together forever. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private family service in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, Parkinson Canada or Operation Smile Canada would be appreciated.
