RUTH ABBOTT Obituary
Ruth Lockhart Abbott passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario. Ruth was born on May 21, 1944, in St. Catharines, Ontario. Ruth's first career was as a nurse, working at the Toronto General, North York General, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Toronto Western Hospital. Following her retirement, she became co-manager of the East York Farmers Market, where she served for over 15 years while simultaneously selling her homemade jams and pickles under the name of Hattie's Preserves. Ruth was an avid golfer and a long-term member of the Ladies' Golf Club of Toronto, joining in 1977 and serving as President in 1984. Prior to her passing, Ruth was awarded the King Charles III Coronation medal for her community service. At her request, there will be no funeral. Ruth's life and contributions will be celebrated at her stall from 9 a.m. to noon, on Tuesday, May 27, at the East York Farmer's Market, 850 Coxwell Avenue.

Ruth an intelligent and kind woman with a sharp wit and great love for people and animals; especially her beloved cats. We played many games of golf over the years and she often joined us for lunch and Passover Seders which she enjoyed very much. I shall miss her phone calls and cards. A friend of 45 years, she can never be replaced.

Sad to hear of Ruth's passing. I worked with her at Toronto Western hospital and thought she was a very knowledgeable nurse. She was a great nursing supervisor and really helped us in the emerg. Her jams were amazing too!! Rest easy Ruth
