RUTH HEWSON Obituary
(née Eastwood) It is with much sorrow that we share the news that our mother, (Marilyn) Ruth Hewson, passed away on November 14, 2025. Ruth had a progressive mind and generous spirit, embracing the many changes seen by her generation with grace. Grateful for her family, friends and community, she provided thoughtful guidance and steady support through her loving and welcoming heart. Ruth celebrated her 90th birthday on October 28th with a joyful lunch among longtime friends, followed by an equally joyous gathering of the extended family. Born in Bonar Law, Ontario, she moved to Whitby in her teens and built a rich, full life here. After meeting her husband, Clare, also from Whitby, they soon started a family, a business, and shared a commitment to church, community and many cherished friendships. Many adventures travelling and sailing rounded out lives well lived. Together, Ruth and Clare created a strong foundation of love, resilience, and grace. Though our hearts are broken, their lessons sustain us, and we hope they continue to echo through the generations. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Clarence Hewson; her parents, Lillian (Roblin) and George Eastwood; her darling sister and brothers, Helen, Glynn and Jack and their much-loved spouses, Clifford, Mildred and Betty. Ruth was greatly loved and will be forever missed by her daughters, Susan and Karen; sons, George and Brian; her adored daughters-in-law, Peggy and Martine; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Join us in remembering Ruth on November 24, 2025, at All Saints Anglican Church Whitby, 1:00 visitation, 2:00 service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Feed the Need Durham or All Saints Anglican Church, Whitby or your preferred charity.
