RYAN DOERSAM Obituary

With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of Ryan Campbell Doersam, who left us unexpectedly at his home in San Jose, Costa Rica, on September 16, 2024. Born on January 12, 1977, in Edmonton, Alberta, Ryan was the son of Ronald and Sharon (Scott) Doersam. He grew up in Calgary, Alberta, where he attended Strathcona Tweedsmuir and Western Canada High School. Ryan went on to study at Queen's University earning the D.I. Macleod Scholarship and the Dean of Business Award before graduating with honours in 2000. He furthered his education at the University of Toronto obtaining both a Juris Doctor and a Master's degree in Economics. Ryan's professional journey began in Toronto, where he worked as Managing Director and Senior Vice President at Borealis Infrastructure (OMERS) from 2004 to 2016. During this period, he also served as Chief Development Officer at Teranet for eight years. He then took some time off to reconnect with his family and focus on his investments. During this time, Ryan worked as interim CEO at Rare Earth Salts Separations & Refining LLC for three years. He also started his family business building and developing homes primarily in Nosara, Costa Rica. In Toronto, Ryan met Kendra Lauren Dawson, they married on February 16, 2008. Together they had four children: Ryan Harrison, Evelyn Lauren, Georgia Grace, and Thiago Boyd Doersam. When Kendra and he separated in 2020, he met Nicole Bratusa, with whom he had a daughter, Olivia Jade. Ryan was a devoted father and friend, known for his love of fishing, golfing, playing cards, and shooting. His family and friends will remember him for his adventurous spirit, leadership, enthusiasm and loyalty. He is survived by his parents; his sister, Shauna (Doersam) Zingg, and her husband, Thomas Zingg; Kendra, and their four children; Nicole, and Olivia; as well as many friends and extended family. Ryan was preceded in death by his beloved dogs, Freddy and Mac. A small family funeral has been held in Costa Rica, with a larger Celebration of Life planned for Spring 2025 in Vancouver, BC.
