Sally DUNDAS Obituary

SALLY (SARAH JANE) DUNDAS We are deeply saddened by the loss of Sally Dundas, who passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 10, 2022, aged 69 with her daughters, Tor and Charlotte by her side. Sally had lived with cancer for many years. She died as she had approached her life, with tremendous grace and great dignity. Sally was born in London, England to Hugh and Rosamond Dundas, and spent her early years there. Her adventurous spirit led her to a cross-country tour of Canada in 1970, ending in Montreal. This is where Sally began her film career, at Women's Studio D at the National Film Board of Canada. A few years later, Sally moved to Toronto, first working in the feature film industry, and then joining IMAX Corporation in 1983 as a documentary film producer. Sally had a long and innovative career with IMAX including co-producing Fires of Kuwait, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1993. After leaving IMAX, Sally went to work with the Motion Picture Bond Company. Once retired, the next stage of Sally's creative and inspiring life began, she discovered both a love of drawing, and creating a perfect off-grid camp at North Otter Lake. Sally documented the life around her with wonderfully detailed illustrations of the natural world. These drawings expanded onto ceramics that will continue to bring joy and serve as a reminder of Sally's spirit for years to come. As her daughters, we can say we were lucky to have had the love, guidance, and inspiration of such an amazing woman. Throughout her journey she touched many lives, her uncanny ability to find meaning in every corner and in every person knew no bounds. What a lady, what a life! In addition to her daughters, Tor and Charlotte, Sally leaves her mother, Rosamond; her brother, Jamie; sister, Amanda; and beloved extended family both in Canada and the U.K.

I just heard today of the passing of Sally and it profoundly touched me. What an amazing lady! What a professional and consummate visionary! I met her upon my arrival in Canada. She was a mentor for me and gave me my first main jobs in the Film Industry in Canada and then translating and adapting scripts and many other documents to French for Imax, including negotiations to open Imax Mexico. We stayed in touch for a while as I travelled for work. When I heard of her battle with cancer, I called her and she immediately invited me for coffee, telling me she was on the mend and she had new projects we discussed both with excitement. I moved to Israel then Covid hit and I regret I did not contact her when I returned to Toronto. She was strong, proud of her two beautiful daughters and adoring them. Sally has always been on my mind and will be remembered always with great fondness.

Sally was one of my most favourite people in our beloved zoom group of "sickos". She had a heart of pure gold and I would make it my mission on Mondays to make her laugh. She always spoke so highly of her family, it was beautiful. I had no idea that she lived such a full life, though with her spirit and creativity it shouldn't surprise me. Until we meet again my friend, I love you always. Xoxo
