Salma MIRSHAK Obituary
SALMA MICHEL MIRSHAK (née Cortas) 1947 - 2022 With family at her side, Salma died peacefully at the Lakeside Long-Term Care Centre in Toronto on December 30, 2022, after a long struggle with dementia. Salma was born in Beirut, Lebanon, living her early life by the sea and in the mountains. Shortly after graduating from the American University of Beirut, she moved to Toronto in her early twenties. Throughout her life, she tried her hand at many careers such as antique dealer, restaurateur, and librarian at the University of Toronto to name a few. However, as a passionate mother, loyal wife, and adored grandmother, family was always her highest priority and she had a selfless and generous commitment to those she loved. Artistic and creative, her passions included singing, piano, embroidery, and travel. She connected to her Lebanese heritage through cooking, and enjoyed hosting many dinners for friends and family. She was an active member of the Annex Singers, performing with them until her health made it no longer possible. Salma is survived by her husband, Graeme Taylor; her children, Ramzi (Allison) and Leila (Jason); her stepchildren, Helen (Jim) and Paul (Anita); her seven grandchildren, Cameron, Rachel, Lindsay, Faris, Nora, Drew, Claudia; and her siblings, Namir, Raja, Lina. The family would like to thank her many caregivers, including Dr. Hildebrand, Noemi Quinajon, as well as Dr. Zimcik and the tremendously supportive staff at Lakeside. A funeral service for Salma will be held at the Rosar- Morrison Funeral home in Toronto on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 10 a.m. followed by a family service at 11 a.m. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lebanese Red Cross.
