WEAVER, The Reverend Dr. Samuel Robert
Samuel Robert Weaver of Port Dover, Ontario, Canada, passed away at London Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, March 16, 2000 after a brief illness. He was 83 years of age. Dr. Weaver was ordained as a Baptist Minister in 1940, and served congregations in Sherbrooke, Quebec; Welland, Ontario; Regina, Saskatchewan; Princeton, New Jersey; and St. Albans, West Virginia until his retirement in 1983. He returned to Canada, settled in Port Dover and accepted the position of interim minister of Langton Baptist Church in Langton, Ontario for seven years. Dr. Weaver had served as President of the West Virginia Baptist Convention, been on the Executive Board of the American Baptist Convention, and made multiple contributions to edited volumes of sermons. He published his last book, The Gospel in the Gospel, in 1997. Dr. Weaver earned his B.A. from McGill University, his B.Div. and M.A. from McMaster University, and his Th.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary. He is survived by his wife, E. Mable (Beatty) Weaver of Port Dover, six children: Wayne, of Stephenville, Texas, Murray and Heather of Atlanta, Georgia, Donald, of Columbus, Ohio, Bryan, of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Scott, of Charleston, West Virginia; 16 grandchildren, his twin brother, William, of Town of Mount Royal, Quebec, and his sister, Evelyn, of Toronto, Ontario. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur and Alan. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00, and 7:00 to 9:00 on Saturday, March 18, at Verhoeve Funeral Home in Langton. Funeral services will be held at Langton Baptist Church on Sunday, March 19, 2000 at 2:00. The Reverend Arthur Hadley of Mississauga, Ontario, and the Reverend Keith Sutherland, pastor of Langton Baptist Church, will lead the service. Interment in Langton Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his honour to the Langton Baptist Church.
