SANDRA HUBLEY Obituary

(nee Yarlett, August 4, 1939 - November 21, 2025) Sandra died with grace and courage, peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Aileen Yarlett, Sandra was the eldest sister to the late David Yarlett, and to Karen Shear, Michael Yarlett, Stephen Yarlett, and Debbie Monck. She was the devoted wife of Norm Hubley for over 63 years; and loving mother of her three girls, Pam (Tim Godden), Darlene (Howard Gerson), and Kelly (Kevin Whiddon). As an exceptional and enthusiastic grandmother to Grace and Eric, Elyse (Dakota Urban) and Jackie, Cameron and Hilary, Sandra never missed a moment to be present, inspire, and celebrate them as they grew into the young adults they are today. Sandra grew up in Leaside. She loved playing piano and singing in school and church choirs. As a teenager she enjoyed summers lifeguarding at Camp Calumet in Haliburton. She was an accomplished figure skater, a sport she enjoyed into her late 60s. She had a fulfilling career teaching with the Toronto and East York Boards of Education, followed by 17 years at Mrs. Park's Nursery School influencing the lives of so many young children and their families. At the Leaside Skating Club she was President, held multiple executive roles on the Board and was honoured as a Life Member. For over 60 years she raised funds for many charities with her high school sorority sisters. At Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, she was instrumental in forming the Salt & Leven Women's Group and supported the House of Compassion and the Out of the Cold Program. She had lifetime bonds with childhood friends and meaningful friendships with people in her swimming, skating, golfing, painting, bridge and book groups, as well as the Clear Lake cottage community. She traveled, often cycling with a special group of friends, in Canada and many countries. Generous, caring, thoughtful and engaged, Sandra had a wonderful life and embraced every opportunity to connect with people. She lived her life in accordance with her faith, always positive, kind and a "doer," never hesitating to become involved, offer help and search for solutions to make the world a better place. We thank the palliative care specialists from North York General Hospital and all those who generously cared for Sandra as she navigated the late stage of her life with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). A special thanks to Mary Magill and Pinky Knight, who, along with the family, cared for Sandra in her final months. We are grateful she could remain in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love and devotion of family and dear friends. Interment took place with a private family service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery on November 24, 2025. A Memorial Service will be held at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, 1585 Yonge Street, on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 1 p.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations made to a health-related Charity of Your Choice would be appreciated.

I have a special memory of Sandra. My daughters were her students at Mrs. Parks Nursery School. One day I attended my younger daughter´s class. At snack time Sandra sat at the little table surrounded by three year olds each with a slice of apple in front of them. Before they ate, they clasped their little hands together, smiled, and said in unison, "Thank you Mrs. Hubley". So thank you Mrs. Hubley. You were a wonderful teacher. My condolences to her family and friends.

Our condolences on the loss of the lovely Sandra. We have so many fond memories from our years together at Leaside SC. My mom enjoyed sharing the ice with her on the Adult Morning Session (and their always fabulous luncheons), sharing the stands for hours as we daughters skated and the fun precision trips. With sympathy, Esther and Catherine Commins
