Sandy CAMERON Obituary
SANDY (CLIVE) CAMERON Died peacefully on October 9th with Jean Swanson, his partner of 25 years, and niece Stacy Sprague beside him, and sister Ann Orr beside him in her heart by phone from Toronto. Sandy was born in Toronto in 1931 and came to Vancouver in 1965. He was a logger, miner, prospector, teacher, writer, mentor, poet, humanitarian, athlete, grandpa and surrogate grandpa, storyteller, gentle soul, and strong antipoverty, housing and human rights activist. People say about Sandy: 'Such a totally beautiful person, always ready to tell your kids there was another path;' 'He knows who I am;' 'He was so important in my life, the foremost person who catalyzed me when I was getting into activism;' 'He taught me that it is possible to fight for what you believe in while taking care of those around you.' Sandy said his most important work was in the Downtown Eastside where he documented the history of the area as a struggle for human rights and was the 'conscience of the community,' a wonderful encourager, and a dear friend to many. Sandy is cherished by his partner Jean and her family, sister Ann, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Many thanks to nurses, doctors and staff at Mt. St. Joseph ICU. A celebration of Sandy's life will be held at Carnegie on Nov. 14th from 1 to 3 p.m.
