SARA FISHER Obituary

Dr. Sara E. Fisher (née Sally Porteous), daughter of the late Nancy Bogart Porteous and John (Bud) Porteous; cousin to Peter (Charlotte Stevens) and Robin MacLaurin; and second cousin to Jennifer MacLaurin Smith (Derek, Dylan, Charlotte, and Isabelle of Chicago, IL) and Martha MacLaurin Wood (Anthony, Gabrielle, and Cooper of Sydney, Australia), passed away peacefully, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was lovingly cared for in her final days by devoted friends, especially Judy Mahan. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Sara attended The Study, McGill University, and the University of California, Berkeley. She built a career in psychology, guiding others with insight and compassion. A lifelong equestrian and animal lover, she called her pets her "four-legged children," reflecting the same kindness and loyalty she shared with everyone she knew. Having made her home in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sara will be remembered for her intellect, humour, and quiet strength. She touched many lives - friends, family, clients, and animals alike - and will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the University of California, Davis Veterinary Hospital (www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/giving).

I met Sara late in what was clearly an amazing life of service. She befriended my parents shortly after they moved to her senior community and remained a friend throughout their time there. I'm also a psychologist who trained at Berkeley shortly after she did. Like mothers do, my Mom made sure I introduced myself to Sara. After followed many coffees and lunches whenever I visited.

Sara was a force. Quiet but keenly observant, not shy with her opinions if at all asked, and a gift to all her met her.

I last saw Sara a few months ago in her amazing apartment with Buddy patrolling. I'm so glad I had even the short opportunity to know her. Her memory is a blessing.
