Sarah STEVENS Obituary

Sarah (Sally) Jean Stevens (nee Brown) Oct. 26, 1926 - Oct. 14, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom Sally at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Sandy Stevens, Calgary; Wendy Stevens, Courtenay; and Beth Cooper (Norm), White Rock. She was dearly loved by her grandchildren; Luke Trigg, April Trigg, Matt Trigg, Amanda Cooper, Brian Cooper, Jared Strand and Jordan Strand. Sally had 3 great-grandchildren; Gavin Trigg, Gracie Trigg and Jade Davis.
Sally was born in Rock Island, Illinois and moved to Toronto with her parents in the 1940's where she met her soul mate, Peter, on the tennis courts. They married in 1949 and had 50 wonderful years together. Sally attended Branksome Hall girls' school in Toronto and graduated with a B.Sc. in Nursing in 1951 from the University of Toronto. She worked briefly for the Red Cross. She raised her 3 daughters and helped Peter with his business in Ontario. They lived in Toronto, Cambridge, Montreal and summered at the family cottage in Parry Sound.
Sally loved the outdoors and was an avid skier, golfer, and tennis player. She also loved music and played the piano. Sally was a talented quilter and an active member of the Mayne Island Quilt Guild. She and Peter spent a year cruising the Bahamas on their sailboat 'Nomad.' In 1992, they moved to beautiful Mayne Island, BC to be closer to family.
We will all miss Sally's warmth, quick wit and generosity to others. She was not one to back down from a challenge or an adventure. Her spirited energy was contagious and endearing.
Special thanks to Brenda and Jenny, her private caregivers, and all the staff at Westminster House in Surrey, BC for the excellent care they provided. A memorial service will be held on Mayne Island when family can gather. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of BC.
