SARAH TILEY Obituary



SARAH R. TILEY (NEE DOWNES) Passed away peacefully in Toronto on April 11, 2005, surrounded by her loving family. Born in London, England on January 8th, 1934, she earned an Honours degree in English from Bristol University and a teaching certificate at Cambridge. She was an elementary school teacher for several years before emigrating with her husband to Toronto, Canada in 1961, where she devoted herself to raising her children. She later studied French at the University of Toronto and for 12 years taught the lunch hour French program at Kew Beach Public School. She loved working with young children and had a life long passion for studying languages, including French, Japanese and Italian. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Jim, children Kate, Mark and Alison; brother Rackstraw; sister-inlaw Vera, son-in-laws Robert and Tunu, and cherished granddaughter Maya. The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff of Sunnybrook Hospital's Burn Unit for the excellent care and support given to Sarah and her family. A memorial service and reception in celebration of her life will take place on Saturday April 16th, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Bellefair United Church, 2 Bellefair Ave. at Queen St. East. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sarah's name may be directed to the Centre for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University of Toronto, 6 Queens Park Cres, Toronto, Ont. M5S 3H2.
