SATISH SRIVASTAVA Obituary
Satish Kumar Srivastava, husband, father of two and grandfather to seven grandchildren, passed away unexpectedly in Toronto on April 19, 2024, at the age of 74. He was born in Varanasi, India, on February 13, 1950, to Shimbhu Dayal and Hingoo Devi. He was the tenth of their eleven children and was his mother's favourite. Satish was an alumnus of IIT BHU and attended IIT Kanpur. He wed his beloved wife of 49 years, Pratima Srivastava, on May 20, 1975, in Varanasi, and moved to St. John's, NL, to pursue a Masters and Ph.D. at Memorial University. After a short time as a tenure track professor, Satish spent his entire career at the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) in Ottawa and Saint-Hubert, QC, working on RADARSAT. He was immensely proud of his work at the CSA. As an engineer, he was building something that would endure and enhance Canada's standing in the world. He was a recognized world expert in his field and represented Canada to the international scientific community. Spending his career at the CSA was his way to serve his fellow Canadians. He loved Canada and was forever indebted to the opportunities it afforded him and his family. Post retirement, he relocated to Toronto and became actively involved in his community by serving on the board of the IIT Alumni of Canada and volunteering for a host of other organizations. Satish was a kind, loving and generous man. He would often befriend newcomers to Canada and do whatever he could to help them start their new lives, whether it be giving them advice or his own furniture. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved his weekly single malt whisky. He was the first one on the dance floor dancing like nobody was watching. He loved to sing. He travelled extensively and had friends everywhere. He loved food. He loved to talk to strangers. He loved to laugh and was always smiling. He loved his family. He was an inspiration and role model to his two sons. He taught his sons about the everchanging world and what it means to be a husband, father and member of the community. Above all else, he loved his wife. They were perfect for one another for 49 years. He was devoted to her and she was his rock. Keeping him up if he was down, keeping him strong if he was weak. When it came to how to live a full life, Satish Srivastava was a lion. He is survived by his wife, Pratima, in Toronto; his son, Sarvesh, daughter-in-law, Carolanne, and two grandsons, Maurya and Agastya, in Brooklyn, NY; and his son, Manish, daughter-in-law, Ying, and five grandsons, Bodhi, Roshan, Mohan, Thorin and Ishan, in Toronto.
