Dear Joan and family, I am so sorry to hear of Saul's passing. Saul was an inspiring and dedicated professor of many generations of Waterloo students, and I was fortunate to be his teaching assistant for a term. Saul had a very joyous and curious way of looking at the world! He will be missed.

Maureen and I are so sorry to hear of Saul's death.
Saul was one of those rare people who managed to have a big positive influence in my life (and probably the lives of many others too).
He was an excellent professor and opened my eyes to the world of urban design, did me the honour of employing me as a teaching assistant in my graduating year (1972) and through the years stayed in touch via correspondence and several visits to Victoria.
Saul had the special gift of optimism despite (and perhaps because) of his health and mobility challenges. He had a uniquely positive take on many aspects of life especially arts, culture and design. His astute observations were always thought-provoking.
The last time I saw him was at my mom's memorial service in Waterloo.
In his early 80's and wheelchair-bound, Saul bravely had made his way through snowy, chaotic, LRT construction-zone downtown Waterloo to attend. My daughter Kim and son Dean both had the pleasure to visit with Saul on that occasion and both send their condolences too.
Best wishes
